Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Reminded me of the old saying, "The British went to war with a battle rifle, the Americans with a target rifle and the Germans with a hunting rifle".

Have a look on You Tube for videos on the 'Mad Minute' or likewise to see how fast the Lee Enfield really could and can be shot.

R Lee Ermey is slightly 3 bags full regarding smokeless powder. The .30-06 was hardly the first smokeless round, nor was its predecessor, the .30-03. In fact, the USA was using smokeless in its earlier military round, the .30-40 Krag.

The French were the first to introduce smokeless powder in their 8mm Lebel, in 1886.

It is true that the first British .303 rounds used black powder, but they had converted to smokeless powder in 1892, same time as the USA adopted the .30-40 Krag.

Gunny gets an F on this quiz.

Regarding the Brits using a modified SMLE, the No. 4 Mk I, in WW2, may I remind R Lee that the USA also adapted the Springfield for quicker production for WW2 and called it the 1903A3, and millions of them were made and issued. The Marines often were equipped with them at the beginning of the war.
“Fanaticism consists of redoubling your efforts when you have forgotten your aim.”

Very much in Bangalore, MoA. The text speak and assorted bull on IFG ensures I give it a wide berth.
Yes, Nags, you could say I have been on one of life's adventures but I am not telling. ;)
Keep well!
