Nikhil,

Hearty congratulations.That rifle looks really nice.That action looks to me for some reason an FN commercial Mauser action.If it is, I am told that it is one of the best Mauser actions ever made.Is it possible for you to post a few more pictures of the action and the markings?Thank you.

Hope wasnt a big hole in the pocket..great looking gun as Vikram said resembles FN Mauser action. Is everything original including the stock?

Basically an original finish does not matter as much in Indian scenario as a good shooter does. An original rifle even in almost new condition would cost a fraction of the price abroad compared to what our friend may have paid here in Mumbai. I have my doubts about the stock but if contours are well made to fit well, it should not pose any problems. I find the wood rather light in color for the European taste. Seems to have been reblacked (not blued) as well but even that does not matter if proper care has been taken to keep the etching on the metal parts intact. FN Mauser actions are known for their excellence in quality and smoothness. Congrats Nikhil.

Three features speaks against it being built on a commercial F.N. Mauser action; at least post WWII. The commercial actions had a bolt handle that was swept back, and bent for a low scope. Second, the mill cut at the rear of the receiver ring, to provide clearance for the longer .30-06 cartridge. The commercial post-war F.N. was made with a slightly longer magazine from the start, and did not require that cut. That cut will only be found in actions converted to .30-06. Neither did the commercial action have the clip slots for the charger. It is most likely an ex-military action, which could well be an F.N.
Take the bolt out and look at the internal ring in the receiver ring, if it's broached through right and left, it's a commercial F.N.; if solid on the left, it's a military action.
As to the stock wood, the color is fairly typical of Italian walnut. It is also properly laid out with very good grain flow through the grip. Neither the Belgians, nor the Germans, routinely stained walnut to a darker color. Especially when the wood had good color and grain. As far as I can see, the stock is original. Indian walnut that I am familiar with has a much darker, totally different color. Indian walnut was exported in the sixties.

every thing is fine but ...there is very big hole in the pocket...... but this is a passion you cant stop your shelf spending money......yes every thing is original but the stock has been polished ones
