I think that is not engraving those are the markings from IOF

Please correct me if I am wrong

Eljefe,

Sure thing! Will post more pics tonight, the scope (as much as I'd like to stay a mile from anything bigger than a 5x) is a 4-16x50 made by a company called VisionKing, it turned out to be a good piece of glass and the only reason I picked this one up is because of the reticle, will try to take a pic of that too

I would like to thank each one of you personally for the appreciative response :D Its surprising as to what you can achieve with a few rasps, couple of sheets of sandpaper, a can of spray paint and a little imagination  This was always going to be my project rifle and I had plans for it from the day I got her, apart from just cosmetics, buttstock has been glassed in and the forend's "ears" have been stiffened via two hardened 6mm headless bolts on either side and are now glassed to make full contact with the receiver cutaways lending solid support all the way upto the receiver ring, from then on its totally free-floating, its virtually impossible to get the barrel to make contact anywhere in the channel after the receiver now, hence the bipod! the crown has been re-cut owing to the botch job done by the factory, it seems like some sort of hand-held deburring tool was used to cut the crown leaving a lot left to be desired, the trigger has been cleaned up and smoothened out and set to break clean at 3lb 02oz, take up and creep have been removed (disassembly/reassembly not for the faint-hearted!)

Also, last night I slapped on the CNC'ed 1-piece custom Weaver rail which sits much lower than the present 2-piece set-up shown in the pics, I've yet to go out and see what she's performing like on paper, will hopefully find the time to do that this weekend! Have a good one folks!

z375,

Great job! Seems you did everything yourself.
I got Warne mounts and medium height rings for my IOF just a couple of days ago, and the cleaning kit from GSmith just yesterday. Was even thinking of putting up a bipod. Is that a Harris 6inch one? I suppose it fits in the plate at the bottom of the fore end. Could you let us know how you fixed that up?

Thanks Katana, the pod is a Hallis (Harris pronounced in Chinese, you get my drift?) yes, it is a copy of the Harris 6", but its very solid and very neatly constructed, unlike some of the other examples I've seen, which is why I chose this one. It has two spring-loaded jaws that clamp into a standard sling swivel stud on the forend of the rifle and there's a knurled hex screw which when torqued pulls the jaws down and clamps them together firmly against the stud by levering against the base plate. It takes all of 30 seconds or less to take it off and put it back on when needed.

Z375,

No way! I just love the Hallis bit! Thanks for the tip buddy. I was anyway thinking of getting one over from the US. Now that you have put it up, I guess I'll go for the original. Do you have the plate with the screw holes at the bottom of the foreend? Like in the new IOF .22? Or does one have to drill a hole?

Secondly, I alway thought that because of it's furniture design it would be difficult to free float the barrel. I guess I was wrong, now that you have gone and done it, I'm really inclined to try it out myself.

Enjoy! But please post you target groups. If possible, the 'before and after' types.

Vision king- going very oriental Z? ;) you sure thats not made by my B-I-L? he's an eye cutter...
After such a great make over? i 'll try to make a 1 col x 5cm on the stevens 200-no where as aesthetic as yours-more like drop in mart,Inc 8) my pod is a 'Lamington'
Would you consider using 3K warp carbon fibre tape epoxied into the barrel channel as an 'adequate' stiffener? I havent any idea of the wood geometry of the IOF 30-06 fore end-just guessing

I really liked the "outback" part. Maybe we all should name it that
