Hello there
there is a 30-30 winchester which is very old, apparently about 80 plus years at a dealer in Madurai, Tamilnadu, however the owner quoted about Rs 80000/- for it, i offered Rs 10000/-. i made enquiries about the ammunition, it seems it is available in North at about Rs. 325/- per cartridge. The weapon does not have any provision for mounting a scope, however it has a rear peep sight. The weapon was in use in a tea estate for more than 50 years and has an impressive bag, or that is what the owner told me.

Older lever actions don`t have a provision for mounting a scope - you have to have the receiver tapped to affix a side mount.
80 Years old eh ? That means a M94 with a hell of a lot of stock drop. Best avoided unless you know a competent gunsmith/joiner who can rejoin the stock at a much lesser angle.

The caliber of the Winchester was 45-90.Did not ask him about the price as had no interest in the rifle.

If you want to go this way, better get a .405 Winchester lever action.Ammo is pricey but you can get it from time to time 30-30 rifles usually sell for Rs.45,000/- and ammo is not a problem.Try to get a Marlin 30-30.They are in a generally better condition than the Winchesters and you can mount a scope on one with ease.I am looking for a Savage 99 in 30-30 but have not found one so far.A Colt Lightning in 44-40 is another option. However the ammo is almost double the price for a 30-30
Hi Guys,

I was reading your old posts......and as you know I'm contemplating buying a rifle....

What do you say about the 30-30 rifle vis-a-vis 30.06 ???

I feel these 30-30 rifles like marlin lever action might be available for a reasonable amount.....

How is the ammo priced? and availability?

Regards,
Nishant
