Re: Suggestions Needed On Buying A .405 Winchester Rifle
Hi Gurpartap, one simple fact of life in India, any rifle/shotgun/Rev/pistol,leaving aside the Airguns have little use,the DMs office ensures it,with 25 Cartridges a year,it hardly matters whether you are buying a Wall Hanger or a Car Hanger, issue is economics,if you get the Rifle for a cpl of Ks and spend another cpl of Ks for the ammo 25 an year it is worth it.Rakesh at Garg Armory is gonna charge you about Rs 350 a pop for the ctgs 350 X 25 = Rs 8750/- 405 Win for a cpl of Ks + Rs 8750 = --------------------,a 22 LR by Brno Mod 2 = Rs 200k,you wont know whether its doctored or not,a decent 30-06 = Rs 350ks,you still wont know whether its doctored or not,an IOF 30-06= Rs 150k,trips to Gunsmiths for this and that : PRICELESS,so i hope you can choose

Till recently you could not get .405 ammo. The fact that it is available now does not mean that the situation would be the same in 2 years time. With a quota of 25 a year you can't even stock ammo.
As far as the IOF 30-06 is concerned,it has become a fashion to call every IOF product rubbish.I will say that it is more accurate than the vast majority of the 30-06 rifles floating around. The magazine is a bit rough but nothing that 10 minutes with fine wet and dry sandpaper will not cure.It is a push feed and requires the cartridge to be chambered for the extractor to snap into the extractor groove. Many do not do that and then complain about stuck cartridges/feeding problems.
As far as the 'expert' gun dealers are concerned,it is feed back from them that has lead to the IOF putting a groove on the receiver of the IOF 30-06 and the slight hump to accommodate that.Stupid if you ask me.
