Hey friends ,
Again i pose u with 2 questions one easy one tricky.... I say so cuz im supposed to go seal the deal tomorrow ...( No pressure from dealer just self imposed) Isay so cuz i ve seen about 15 different pieces of the same weapon from A reputed dealer in Kolkatta to Delhi to Merrut. The delhi guy has apparently picked up 10 odd NIB from STC auction and believe me i have not seen a better condition weapon . I ve seen this one in merrut even spoken to the actual owner he imported it brand new and had only fired / purchased 10 shots on his license (though this could be a dealer owner trick , of making me talk to him and all). But the condition is superb.. blueing to timing to grooves to the box and info leaflets on it ...well i havnt seen a cleaner piece... So here come the questions

TRICKY FIRST: After best negotiations the price is come to as a firm 5.0 Lakhs... Do u guys wanna gimme an opinion whether its a good price or am i being fleeced period(considering prices in indian scenario)

EASY SECOND: The firing pin on the hammer is another piece and is held by a screw and has a lil play / pivots on the hammer through a screw... Is this normal to a S&W....

Hello captrakshitsharma,
Price of Rs.5 L for 2 inch snubby in almost NIB condition that too from direct first hand importer seems perfectly okay as we are getting NOT so NEW 3 inch for a price of Rs.4 L+ One dealer even went further & quoted me 4.7L for S & W model 31-1 - 3 inch barrel. When was it imported? Also check out the serial number of weapon..

But dealers here tell me to pay the price, take the weapon... fire it... keep it with you for a week... if u like it.. only then it will be on your licence otherwise take your money back... seems very justified [except not endorsing on licence!!! God knows how it is managed]... check out if this facility is available.
It is very important as I have read few stories of users on net that the weapon had some serious error... u fire straight and it goes way off...

As far as firing pin is considered it should be okay as I have not zoomed in on S & W but YES! it is the same in Colts Detective Special as you have mentioned.

Wish you Best of Luck...

Best regards..

Captrakshitsharma,

Look for a used though not abused revolver.Nothing really goes wrong with a S&W even if a couple of 100 rounds have been fired from it.Considering the limited ammo quota, this is highly unlikely. What really happens if that many of them are carried a lot but fired very little.Cosmetically they may not look very good but mechanically they would be sound. This would also save you a lot of moolah.

A NIB W&S .32 B series would cost you almost half the price of this revolver. One in good condition(but not NIB) would be much cheaper.

They both fire the same cartridge by the way. Both are reliable.

Re the pin on the hammer, that is normal

Couldnt agree more....check out Garg Armoury.....he has one....havent seen it,but I will take Rakesh's word for it....he usually keeps quality stuff....though in our context if it's just for self defense.... without trying to impress folks with what you carry...then an IOF product would be the best choice :o

It is in fact held by a rivet and does have play so that there is some "self centering" when it hits the primer.
I imagine most center fire revolvers will have this feature including our beloved IOF MK 1 revolver. The exceptions would be ones that have a firing pin in the frame instead of the hammer.

Anand

what does NIB stand for.
2 inch is scarce so the slight premium
The firing pin mentioned by you in fine.it should be that way only.

Don't worry, No harm comes to a center fire revolver if dry fired....except the drag mark that becomes more prominent on the cylinder. This is bound to happen eventually anyways. But I understand what you mean as I wouldn't want anybody doing that to my revolver either. I'd rather you gauged how much the person knows of gun etiquette before you gave it in his hands to admire your favorite piece of iron. Marksman

PS: Now dial 32 instead and hear the constant engage tone....
