I came across a webpage (http://glockparts.com/page/mimj/FAQS.html) that has quite interesting facts regarding changing the calibre of glock pistols just by changing the barrel, for example you can switch from .357 to .40 or vice versa by just changing the barrel. And ofcouse there is no need to change the magazines, as magazines for Glock .357 and .40 cal are interchangeable.

A few facts from the above website:


1) Just replace the barrel of the pistol with the same length barrel in the .357 Sig. For instance replace the G-22 with the G-31 barrel, the G-23 with the G-32 barrel, and the G-27 with the G-33 barrel. Also, you can change the .357 Sig. cal. Glock to the .40 the same way. That means for about $100 you can have two calibers.

20 OR Just change .40 into 9 mm (P) with the LWD-229N stainless barrel for the G-22. It turns your .40 cal G-22 into a 9mm. . With the LWD-229N you should replace the ejector, as the .40 cal. ejector will not make solid contact on the rim of the 9mm case. Third, of course, you would need the 9mm mags. The .40 cal. firing pin, the extractor, and the rest of the internals will work fine.

The idea is pretty old...almost as old as the metallic cartridge itself.

Okey dokey for glock owners...but it'll mean next to nothing to most Indian Gun owners so comments can only be hypothetical.

This has been around for years. One of the big training practices mentioned in the US is to change out the barrel & slide on the existing 9mm/.40cal/.45 cal pistol with a .22lr slide/barrel combo. The benefit is low recoil cheap ammo for training but having the original gun still in hand to get the trigger pull feel/site picture. I recently got a similar kit called 'Kadet' for my CZ 75B in 9mm. Sig Sauer is offering the same for their P220/P226 line, and an a bunch of other makers do it (like Glock as you pointed out). Also, the .357Sig cartridge is very close to the .40cal cartridge, and you could do a barrel swap on any .40cal pistol to shoot .357Sig. Note its not the .357Magnum cartridge. The .357Mag round is very similar to the .38 round (.38 being a bit shorter), so any .357mag revolver also shoots .38.

I owned a CZ75B Kadet between 1999 and 2002 while I lived in the USA, had a few problems with the firing pin, later sold it to a gunsmith friend. Good accurate kit except for a few misfires...turned out later that CZ changed the firing pin to a wedge shape to increase reliability.
I also owned a Caspian Arms 1911 frame with a dedicated Ciener .22LR conversion kit, was plenty accurate. I used to fire anywhere from 200 to 400 rounds a week,

Did you have the CZ75B Kadet .22lr pistol or the Kadet .22lr conversion kit? The Kadet conversion kit goes on any CZ 75/85 pistol.

i think these conversion kits are the best way to save money.45ACP or 9MM to .22LR in seconds

sorry for the late reply, I owned the CZ75B Kadet .22LR pistol, not just the separate kit. I was testing the waters for a good .22 plinker in combat/service handgun form, meaning a full size pistol with a conversion on top.
My goal was to be able to practice cheaply but also have the same platform as my carry gun.( I also owned a CZ75B 9mm)

Also I have never liked the looks of "regular" .22 LR pistols such as the Ruger .22 Govt., Colt woodsman and such.

The Sig Sauer P250 has modular fire control system that fits into different synthetic frames and with different slides, barrel and magazines you can switch between 9mm, 357 SIG, 40 S&W and 45ACP, suggested list $749.

The serial number is on the removable fire control unit and is considered a firearm in the US. The slides, plastic frames & barrel do not have serial numbers.

Also own a CZ 75 9mm with a Kadet 22 upper, works well.

These conversion kits are great, but I dont know what are the legal implication of owning these kits in India. License is given to own a particular NPb weapon (with serial number and calibre mentioned in the license). With these conversion kits you can have two or more weapons and that too of different calibres. May be, ( just my personal opinion), this violates the Arm Act.

Any thoughts/info please

As has been mentioned on other (similar) threads here, having more than one barrel/ kit for your firearm is very much legal. However, it is required that you have each additional barrel along with it's serial no. & calibre entered on your license. It is fairly common for pistol shooters to own both .22 & .32 cal barrels for the same pistol (allowing them to compete in multiple disciplines using the same gun). Also, many clay shooters have more than one barrel set for their shotgun(s), allowing them more flexibility. This saves $$ as well as being counted as only 1 firearm on your license.

This does not mean that people should immediately run out and order such kits from overseas, as the import of barrels is restricted. However, if you can source a kit that fits your particular gun from within India, you are in luck!

Did you have to shave a bit off to get the adapter to fit? Mine did not fit and I paid a guy to have it done. Fit is really tight still. Fun to shoot though.
