Hi

I want to know if anyone has a 40S&W calibre pistol.I have never seen one, neither with a dealer nor with any individual but would like to know if anyone has.

I hear its quite popular in the US.

Ashar, the .40 S&W is a recent development IIRC it was launched sometime in early 90's. Hence the chances of finding one in India are slim, to say the least, and the chances of getting ammo even more remote.

40 cal is a nice compromise between 45 and 9mm.. its little snappy but its recoil is less than 45 while it has got more stopping power than 9mm..many law enforcement agencies in US use this as standard issue..In fact i am also looking forward to get one handgun in 40 cal ...

Don't know about others, but personally I have never found the .45 ACP recoil unpleasant... of course I have only ever shot the regular 230 gr ball ammo and cannot comment on +P ammunition.

Its been quite some time since i went to the range.. From what i felt was that recoil of 45 is more like a push while the recoil of 40 is more like a quick jerk ( like a snap). I do not remember the loads of the shots now.I would like others who have shot both calibers to share their experience..

I had an opportunity to shoot the 40 s&w when in the U.S. in 2003. I found it very pleasant to shoot and quite liked the H&K model USP that i was shooting with. Fired around 150 rounds on an indoor range in Nashville. I found the pistol and the caliber combo quite accurate. I tried out 10mm as well but found the recoil and the muzzle flip pretty intimidating on both ends in spite of being used to the 45ACP. It won't be long before some renowned shot gets the 40 s&w it into the country.

I dont think that even renowned shots will be able to import a semi auto 40S&W.Possible is someone is getting it on a TR.

Marksman, from whatever little interaction I have had with shooters the potential resale value is something that pretty much all of them think about when ordering things from overseas, so I would doubt any of them brining in a handgun chambered for a calibre like the .40 S&W for which ammo is not available and hence demand would be almost non-existent.

Also, as far as ordering "non-target models" (ISSF style sports) is concerned I believe they have been getting progressively stricter on that front. IIRC many years back even Jaspal Rana was refused clearance for a .38 Special (or was it a .357 mag? I forget which...) revolver that he had imported for the benefit of (one of the directors' of) his sponsor company (you all know who). If memory serves me right, that particular handgun was never released by customs...

.40 S&W is a milder loading of the 10mm. When S&W realised that the FBI load in the 10mm could be loaded in a smaller cart they came up with the .40 S&W. I think it would be almost impossible to find it in India.

If I were allowed one particular caliber/Gun here I'd probably go for the .357 SIG over the .40 S&W.

Oh and I've never shot the 40 S&W nor 357 SIG. I've shot the 45 ACP a lot and 357 Mag a lot and compared to the latter, the 45 ACP is a breeze to shoot.

Actually I'd love a full powered load of 10mm as my personal handgun cart

True, very popular here, a lot of Law Enforcement agencies are switching over to the .40 S&W from the 9mm.

I have shot the 40 many many times and it is fun to shoot.

the bottom one is the Sig P226 DAK, chambered in .40 S&W. The one above is a Sig P220 DAK, chambered in .45 ACP.

Anyone seen a Glock with any individual or dealers in India?I met a high ranking police officer today and there was this beautiful Austrian 9mm Glock on his table.Just loved the look of the thing.

I believe a few new Glocks have been issued to IPS officers in India.
