Cheapest Handgun to cover license!!
Hey all.. I have applied for my firearm license. I have applied for SBBL/DBBL NP Bore rifle and rev/pistol...
Mostly the babu will approve only shotgun and rifle.. but in case rev/pistol also gets through.. i would want a basic handgun to cover the license. following important criteria must be taken care of.
1. Rev/pistol should not blow in my hand. Budget is low but safety first.
2. should be below 25K
3. should hit a coke can at 5 mtrs. ( i think thats good enough)
4. I dont mind some rare 0.34567 caliber as long i have 10 rounds with the gun.
WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND.

In Karnataka, the best would be to do a round of the gun shops and find out for yourself, unless you are lucky enough to find a re-seller online.

Diskaon,
Have you applied from Bangalore or Coorg? If it's the latter, it isn't all that difficult to get all three (handgun, shotgun and rifle) in one go.
It's highly unlikely you will get a handgun for 25K but you could get an used IOF .22lr rifle or a new Indian made double barrel shotgun for that amount.

Re: Cheapest Handgun to cover license!!
its almost impossible to find a handgun @below 25K unless it is junk. The cheapest one I saw 5 years ago was a Webley vest pocket model in .25 caliber. A dealer in kolkata sold it for 35K only, though condition was not that bad. May be you can try searching for odd caliber in NPB category. they are usually cheaper due to non availibility of ammo in respect to standard populer caliber.

Hey Mack The Knife,
The IOF 0.22 rifle and short barrel DBBL is in my list already. in case I get a permit for a handgun then I will be a little tight on budget.. so for the time being I wanted something.
I have applied in coorg for the EC, under crop protection & self defense. In most probability I should get SBBL and "0.22 NP Bore rifle" as thats the most common permit issued, irrespective of what you apply for. My dad too has just these two on him permit. From the DCs point of view rifle means 0.22 rifle... Based on past threads I have clearly applied for
1. SBBL/DBBL
2. NP BOre rifle
3. NPB Rev/Pistol
I have kept my fingers crossed and the wait has begun, I think it will take some time.. signing ECs is not the top priority of the DC.

My opinion and it's an opinion only - The IOF made .22 rifle is a stonking bargain when compared to similar imported products! I would buy it in a heartbeat (if I was in the market for a .22 LR rifle).
Indian made SBBL gun's are really not bad at all, they are eminently serviceable (except for needing regular repairs to their ejector mechanism & not generally having standard dimension chokes or chokes at all) AND they are dirt cheap... usually sell for around the price of an air-rifle (Indian made). Indian made doubles on the other hand vary much too widely in price and quality for one to make any similar kind of statement. I would NOT buy an Indian made double...
You will NOT find any handgun NPB or even PB for that kind of budget. Even PB calibre handguns (for which there are very few buyers) retail for INR 45,000/- and upwards.
Considering the fact that a member here paid several lacs (hundred thousands) for a a gun chambered in .38 Super, for which finding ammunition in India is a challenge at best... I would seriously doubt that you would get ANY NPB calibre in ANY condition for less than a lac - except of course for the IOFB made products.... I would personally buy the IOF revolver to cover the license and later sell it for a similar price... the whole idea of covering a license basically means you want to avoid the hassle of constantly renewing the purchase period while at the same time ensuring that whatever you buy does not DEPRECIATE substantially to be a serious financial hit on your resources. The IOF revolver might be ugly but it covers both bases admirably.
Cheers!
Abhijeet

PB handguns are cheap.5000/- to 30,000/- for .38 or .455 revolver and about 20-40,000/- for a .45 or 9mm (very few of these as compared to .45's)pistol.

Re: Cheapest Handgun to cover license!!
PB is cheap but who will endorse it on a civilian licence. What I have mentioned is a NPB Pistol. I still have to check up with the licence holder if he has managed to get the pistol endorsed on his licence. He would be happy to sell.

AC,
I wrote in response to Abhijeet's post.
What is it? .450 webley bulldog ? I have also seen some very poorly made copies of webley Mark IV's going for this price.

How about buying every thing second hand i.e .22 IOF Revolver for Rs 24,000.[with worn out bluing, done more than 2000 shots ect].
.22 IOF rifle with cracked butt ,no bluing and done 5000 shots for Rs 14000.
used Indian dbbl ,10 years old, no bluing and shot hockey butt type Rs 7000.
This is the minimum price i had ever seen ,benifit -.22lr bullet will serve both the weapons and if you want further cheeper contact DARA. Cheers James...
