Folks,
How much do you think a .32 Long Webley Revolver would cost?
The product in question is almost unused (probably less than 50 rounds through it), well maintained (no rust etc) and has no dings or scratches on it. The revolver has black plastic handgrips with the Webley logo on them. All parts are original.

If it is chambered for .32 S&W Long, then I would advice you to save your money. It is an aenemic cartridge and if I am not mistaken has less muzzle energy than a .22lr. Look for a .32 ACP instead - not exactly a man stopper, in my opinion, but far better than the .32 S&W Long.

Dealer prices for the revolver you mention will cost bewteen 1.5 to 2.5 lakhs down south. If it's privately owned, it all depends how clued up the seller is about current prices.

P.S. Gun is described as being in "like new" condition, but it looks a little too worn for that classification to me.

Standard US loading for the .32 S&W Long produces around 115 ft lbs muzzle energy from a 4" barrel - or rather more than a 22 LR ( Standard or hyper velecity. ) You have to remenber that a .22 LR fired from a 4" barrel loses a lot of velocity compared to a rifle barrel. The .32 S&W Long is a runt though - as is the .38 S&W which only makes 150 ft lbs. The latter was the British standard issue revolver round for many years......and pretty hopeless !

You are right that a shorter .22lr barrel length would affect M.E.. However, I used the .22lr example (from a rifle - should have specified that) merely as an example to illustrate how weak the .32 S&W Long cartridge is.

You could import hot rodded 32 S&W long ammunition from the US. Or, if it is for defence, use the Glaser safety slugs in the revolver. That said, if it is in mint shape, I would suggest leaving it as it is. These are old guns and if something goes wrong, you may never be able to get the thing fixed.

OT, but one of my uncles who worked for the forest department was issued a Webley Mark III with a 2" barrel in 38 Special. I shot it quite a bit whenever we visited him though the thing was very inaccurate. Perhaps it was the break open frame - that said, it was fun opening it and watching the empty cases kicked out by the star ejector. If I find a nice one over here at a gun show, it might just go home with me as a fun gun.

Yeah Mack The Knife, I knew what you meant - another of my personal mottos is `Pedantry R Us`! Both the .32 and .38 S&Ws are pretty wimpy......and if it comes to that, the standard loaded .38 Specials aren`t much better - the +P rounds are MUCH pokier.

How many of you are there or is that the royal plural?

That`s just crass commercialism Mack The Knife - as in `Toys R Us` who originated the form.....although I`ve since seen `Pets R Us`, `Beds R Us` and a couple of others. Nothing like being truly original is there ?
