ASTR Defence Phantom
Opinions on the new Phantom by astr defence? Is it suitable for everyday conceal carry? Caliber is not an issue, some say .32ACP is a weak caliber, well go ahead and say that to all 17 of them. I am not too sure about the price point, if you guys have an idea, please let me know.
Some not so common specifications ->
17+1 round capacity
Factory installed red dot sight
MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail

Conceal carry ? for a 120kg human only
With all those accoutrements, winter trigger guard and pic rails, it would be better off as a 9/10mm or .45 ACP.
Maybe they forgot to scale down their service pistol contender?

I agree. The pistol is huge for a .32 ACP.

Dimensions and ergonomics seem similar to a Glock 19 which is technically compact and meant for edc. Its heavy for what it is since both the frame and slide are metallic. But, if you look at comparable products, the Phantom still manages to weigh lesser. Yeah, a 9mm would seem about right in this sort of a package, but the only other round becoming popular is 45 acp and it would require an even fatter grip.

IM ‘carried’ opinion, a Walther PP series cant be beat for a CcWpartheus wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2024 9:43 amDimensions and ergonomics seem similar to a Glock 19 which is technically compact and meant for edc. I’d rather have a .45 or 9 in a single stack mag which is easy carry, than 17 .32 double stack in a service pistol configuration. What ever threat level at a civilian level, 3-7m ‘trouble shooting’ if it cant be fixed with say 2xdouble taps at centre body mass, with irons, I wouldnt be waiting to empty a mag of 17 using Pic rail, flashlight and reddot sight. Call me a Luddite…

Seems nice. And yet the PP weighs more than the Phantom, even though it seems tinier. The Taurus PT57 is almost 300 grams excess. True the PP has the pedigree, reliability, and history on its side. But, I am not sure if its still being sold as her majesty's own gun. Also, I am afraid expensive and rare ammo will keep people from practically using the 45 here in India for the foreseeable future.IM ‘carried’ opinion, a Walther PP series cant be beat for a CcW

Re: ASTR Defence Phantom
We’ll have to wait and see when real world carry and accuracy results come in. The emerging Indian handgun scenario is very encouraging and I feel jealous that I didn't have such a choice when I owned handguns there. And shudder to think of the astronomical prices like 55lacs ,allegedly, for a .357 Desert Eagle.
Having carried a Glock 17, Colt .45 and a PP series in .32, all without additional accoutrements, I am a bit biased about the carry - ability of a Walther. Cant tuck in a Glock or a Colt .45 in the waistband without some jacket or heavy shirt and the weight Needs a good holster and belt. While the walther could go anywhere from ankle to waistband to tuck in, or dump it in the coat pocket. Yes I am a bit biased.
Going by the pics and the gadgets affixed on the the phantom, the form factor will be more decisive than weight alone.
Lets hope we get to hear more about it

Re: ASTR Defence Phantom
Ah! I see you were referring to single stack pistols. Yes, I'd prefer those too for edc. But so far, our choices are fairly limited. The single stacks that are coming out seem to have metallurgical issues. On that note, even Astr's products have been reported to crack or fail. Hopefully they've worked out the kinks.
Also, since the Phantom's usp is its red dot, I wonder what make it is. Seems like something off of Aliexpress at first glance. I wouldn't trust it on an edc gun. I also don't see any rear irons, which is a deal breaker for me. This thing absolutely needs suppressor height sights if they're sporting a no-name red dot.
