Age of a imported gun

Hi Friends,
Just wanted a discussion and point of views on the reliability and value of an imported hand gun which is over 60 years old. As we all know the import of guns was restricted from 1984 onwards so most weapons available in India are older than manufactured in 1984.
Is it worth buying a gun which is over 60 years old ? does the years gone by affect the metallurgy or mechanism ?
Ofcourse how often it has been used will make a difference or if it's an alloy but what if the weapon is in a very good nick and say it is 80 years old , is it still purchasable as a good reliable sidearm ?
Thanks
Chucky
