a review that isn't

I have been thinking a lot since this Saturday, its a very strange feeling to find something so close and yet be so far from it. Let me begin that the plot was hatched last weekend to go to the Dr.Karni Singh range and due to some reasons we decided to postpone it for another day but I needed to still go.

It had been a long week and this Sat was a working day. But after slogging thru the morning I decided that I must go for an hour atleast. So grabbed my office mate and got Anupam roped in. So we reached the pearly gates of the range and I was pleased to learn that I was now a member. I can't explain how the frustration of several years lifted off me.

Now all I had to do was park, grab my rifle case and ammo and head to the range....that simple. And so smirking from ear to ear three of us went to the 25m pistol range, the gaurd told us that we couldn't shoot the .22 rifle there but we went in anyway.

Then Anupam took out his 32 revolver and invited us to have a go. I had shot a handgun decades ago and so didn't know what to expect. But I had quite liked the way Anupam's iron had handled earlier and now I was quite happy to try it out. And so I cocked the hammer and took a double hand grip and squeezed a round off. I didn't feel any recoil but the revolver was loud, this was also partly due to the construction of the range. Suffice to say a few rounds can and prolly will damage your hearing without ear muffs.

Went up and found that I had shot an 8 on the regular 25m target. I passed the revolver to Anupam who thrammed another 8 with it. Hmmm... how uncanny, so the goddamn thing thinks it can spit bullets out like a real pistol eh? After the noise settled I grabbed it again and by heck shot another 8. Naah this can't be right this lowly piece of junk...what did it think it was? A real Webley? To prove ourselves wrong we got another shooter to take a go, he took a typical ISSF single hand hold, froze and then thumped a 9 with the same revolver. He began gushing about it being an exact Webley clone etc. But we managed to keep frowning at him and the revolver. :x

While we didn't really have a group we found that it was pretty easy to keep hitting 8's & 9's with a double handed grip. But then the revolver has a tendency to stop working. After a third round the case would bind up the cylinder. It wouldn't shoot till we waited for a while and then it went bang again. And so here it was all those voices that screamed," told you so...its a piece of crap!"

But the funny part is that its fairly easy to shoot well with. The trigger squeeze is crazy but I wonder if a good smith couldn't make it better. Its not what a $1200 pistola should be as everyone knows but for me its strange. I think I've been so handgun starved that I 'm actually planning on getting a license for maybe the .22 version. Why? Cause it'll be cheaper to shoot.
I'm not worried about self defense with it cause a jam every third round will ensure that the b.guy has anyway plastered you by then  . But to shoot cans and paper I think it will do just fine.

Please don't clobber me for writing this as I am very gun deprived and don't know better. And its prolly also because I am jumping around like a happy puppy now that I've got a range to go to.

Regards,

Dev

Hi,

Probably Indian ammo. Firing indian ammo is lying mixing kerosene to petrol to run your car. If you have the revolver for personal safety ...try getting hold of some imported ammo ......you would always thank Sanjay for his suggestions.

sorry for chipping in late guys... Yes, the ammo WAS very old.. infact 25 years or so !!!!! and it was KF ammo... Just wanted to finish off with the old farts before attempting to exhaust my pitiable ammo quota... !! :)

Yes, I too have realised that for self defence I WOULD need to buy some imported rounds, while for plinking the KF stuff is quite OK.... Didn't suffer a single misfire in over 25 or so rounds fired till now... !!! amazing...

NM in action.

Neelgai walks thru the skeet and trap range.

The trusty Marlin gets worked over at the .22 range. Anupam increased the odds by insisting that we shoot standing.

The twenty five meter pistola range. I am still amazed at what the revolver can do. I had thought the barrel was too short but it reaches out far enough.
