Simple question..
Has anyone tried any real working silencer with any real firing handgun? If yes mind sharing your experience?
Or
It is just 007 type myth?

Hi Singh,
A yellow card on your 8th post should tell you something about what is not encouraged by the law and at IFG as well. Hopefully, you'll be more careful and less forceful with less than legal expedients.
I can't think of any reason other than ill intent when some one starts talking about silencers and suppressors for firearms. The fascination with such devices is misplaced and I dare say, largely misconstrued. It should continue being a 'myth'
The only working silencers legally in use in India would be with the Armed Forces. Two of them come to mind:
H&K MP5 SD-3 and the Sub Machine Carbine 2A1. Talk to any Military or NSG type, they can tell you their experiences.
...and it should end there.
Regards,
CC

????????
Seems a reasonable enough question to me CC - the guy isn`t asking where to buy one but whether they work or not........ ( or maybe he wants to fit one to his deactivated PPK ? .................................................... )
Moderators might be illegal in India but are perfectly legal in the UK - and most of my rifles are threaded for a moderator. They`re a near essential tool for pest control and have become a health and safety issue as they help prevent hearing damage.........and as someone who has distinct hearing damage in both ears - even though I have always used ear defenders/ear plugs ( my latest pair of electronic ear defenders are on the table just behind me as I write ) I thoroughly approve of them.
We`ve discussed moderators before so here are the essentials:
To work really effectively the firearm in question should have a closed breech ( revolvers don`t moderate terribly well because of the gas leakage from the gap between the cylinder and barrel. ) and the ammunition used has to produce sub-sonic muzzle velocities - eg, Colt 1911s moderate very well because 45ACP ammo IS subsonic.
If used with supersonic ammuntion the muzzle blast is considerably reduced but the bullet produces a sonic `boom` - or `crack`which is decidedly noisy. The heavier the bullet, or the higher the velocity, the louder the soic crack. Shooting over clear ground with no trees or buildings around is more effective than when in close confines as the sonic crack echoes off every tree, post, wall, etc, the bullet passes thus effectively amplifying it.
When using sub-sonic ammunition in a .22lr rifle fitted with a decent moderator the noise level produced is less then that of an air rifle. So quiet that you can hear the `click` of the firing pin as it falls.
Bolt actions and falling blocks produce less noise than a sem-auto because you can distinctly hear the action cycle on a semi.
I`ve tried a De Lisle carbine ( a WWII Lee Enfield fitted with a Thompson sub-machine gun barrel in .45 ACP and a very effective Maxim pattern silencer ) and all you hear is the firing pin and a gentle `pfft`. I recently tried a Remington 700 rebarrelled and rechambered for the .300 Whisper in sub-sonic form and fitted with a PES Large Muzzle `can` and the combination was eerily quiet......and remarkably effective.
A bonus when using a moderator is that accuracy invariably improve - why this should be isn`t fully understood but the most likely reason is that turbulence at the muzzle is drmatically reduced.
A second bonus is that because of their very design moderators act as very effective muzzle brakes thus dramatically reducing recoil.
The French clay trap manufacturer Laporte recently introduced a low recoil 12-bore O/U shotgun which has a full-length moderator fitted over the barrels which produces remarkably reduced recoil and a much quiter report - especially when used with sub-sonic cartridges.
So yes, moderators DO work - when used with the right gun and right ammunition.

I shot the De Lisle at my pistol club......shows how long ago that must have been !
I`ve also tried on of the copies - therewas one of those being offered for dale a few months ago. They turn up occasionally.
Yes, the De Lisle was used by SOE during WWII and also by commandos. There was also a version with a pistol grip and folding stock for use by paratroopers.
I`ve never heard of an alternative name for the De Lisle but that doesn`t mean there wasn`t one.
What`s a `warlus` ? Ah, a `Walrus` by any chance ?

i think we are taking about the same kit. ok warlus is a sea mamel big and fat. ha ha .
if my memory is correct there was one known as warlus. anyway how did the De Lisle carbine perform? as for long time i want to "have a go" on it. As it suppose to be "dead" quiet. ah what blessed chap ur to have had a go.

ps we talk about moderator as being quiet, so hard to locate, has any one looked at the flesh that comes out from differnt angel? if any

Yes the De Lisle was - is - extremely quiet.......as said above.
"ps we talk about moderator as being quiet, so hard to locate, has any one looked at the flesh that comes out from differnt angel? if any".
Sorry, you`ve completely lost me now.................I have this strange feeling of having just entered an alien culture..........Neptune perhaps ? Pluto ?

Mack The Knife is rigth, demm coumputer does not do auto spell check.
what i mean is that huspuppys are quiet, what about the flash, ie flame like thing that can be seen from angles. if one is brave enough,(or stupid) try looking when one uses huspuppyies, from front side angle, sometimes there can(is) be a flash which gives the location away.
Grumpy ,coming back to the gun its not warlus but Welrod 9mm also in 32 acp. sorry for the memory loss,
sat moring what can one expect?
soorry sor , am a space cadet from the outter rings of alpha sunturin

sorry man... was going through a babu moment there.
Well, if it's simply to get info, no problems there shouldn't be any issues.
The thing is, I and I dare say others, had a feeling the range of questions and assumptions from Mr.Singh had the undertones of the
'let's see how we can find loop holes in Indian Law' variety.
Hope it was well taken anyway. No offense intended to anyone- sorry if it did
The yellow-card is telling anyway.

Hi cottage cheese
i would agree with you all that, best to keep within the forum rules and that avoids any anti law issues, or for us all to be law breakers.
I don't believe in being offended if i am told off for something which is against the law or that might be taken the worng way. After all the forum is for the good of all and i guess that the reason for the forum moderators to keep us all out of the nick.

I have severe doubts that there is ANY spell checker capable of sorting out your `interesting` version of English mate..........Mind, you, your English is infinitely better than my ability with any Indian language !
Ok, so you`re not talking about the `flesh` of `angels`........ which is good to know ( especially for the angels !
) I was worried that you were considering a bizarre dietary supplement !
Yes, moderators are extremely good at removing muzzle flash - better than any `flash hider`. You would have to be looking straight down the aperture of the moderator to see any flash.......and if you did see any flash it would inevitably mean that you were dead a fraction of a second later ! As the muzzle flash is eliminated the firing point would not be identifiable from any angle.
Ah, the Welrod. A single-shot silenced pistol developed for SOE use in WWII. Chambered in 7.65 ( .32 acp ) and 9mm Short.
And I presume the reference is to `Alpha Centauri` ? LOL
- We `space cadets` should stick together.........but it might help if we knew exactly where we were going !

help, i'm well and truly lost now.
.........and if alpha sunturin is alpha centauri, where did the B@##dy rings grow out from?

Some days you wake up in the morning and wonder if you`re the only same person left in the world...........................
Have you been sniffing the ether bottle Anand ?
What have Alpa Centauri......or `alpha suntorin` (
) got to do with Saturns rings ?
If I said that green was read would you automatically believe me ?
The reference to "the outter rings of alpha sunturin" was, I think you`ll find, intended to convey in a jokey manner, that he is from a remote region a very long way away. Not a literal de.scription of where he actually comes from.........
although, wherever that is, it must be an `interesting` place.......It`s not often that you come across alien spacemen who use Walrus shaped silenced ray guns !

yes, thank you, purveyor of "jokey" news.
though you never know, he might actually have a passport for the place. we
are heading towards the united federation of planets anyway, add a star to it.
