I heard that there are a few available in the big cities. However, one also needs to be rich. I heard, I repeat that I only heard, that they can cost as much as 35-50 lakhs of rupees.

Desert Eagle is not Prohibited in India.
PB is dependent on the Bore not the Brand/Make.
Though it might be very very difficult to find a Desert Eagle in India.
This Pistol is chambered for very powerful cartridges,
The smallest probably being a .357.
(Desert Eagle is One of the few Pistols chambered for a .357 Magnum).

Desert Eagle is not Prohibited. its Cal. variants are also now NPB. but As Jr. rightly said its difficult to find one in India. Bro famous I think Your only one Kidney will not able to fetch enough for even a Glock, forget the other brands.. ( just joking man )

9 mm is a Prohibited Bore in India, not allow for Civilians.

It just means that you need to get a PB licence. Whether one can get it issued is a different story.

Prohibited Bore (PB) Pistol Licenses are issued by Union Home Ministry.
Firstly you need to submit an application to the Home Secretary of the State of your residence for PB License. All the formalities for NPB License have to be attached too. Then the application has to be recommended by the Home Secretary and forwarded to Union Home Secretary. Union Home Secretary will start the background check, the verification process and review the application.
As you can see that this procedure has to go through high ranking Bureaucrats. So only highly influential people get the PB Licenses.
The high price of the weapon falling under PB Category is also involved but is the least important thing in this process because its all about influence.
And one more thing the time to complete this process will feel like eternity.
