Ok, I'm not really a revolver guy but yesterday, at the range, my friend Liang showed up with a new handgun.
It was a Smith & Wesson Model 10 in .38 Special with a four inch barrel.
This was an older police trade in. There was holster wear on it but it did not look too bad.
He bought it used for the ridiculous price of about $250.

For some reason, it fit my hand really well.


What a sweet shooting handgun. Six shots fired in single action mode (21 feet).
This was the first time I shot this revolver. The first shot went bang in the center.
I was a little surprised to say the least.

For some reason, this thing really clicked with me. It just felt correct.
Excellent groups and butter smooth trigger and action; just will it to fire and it does.
A real jewel.

Wow! That is some shooting! I know what grouping Ive got to better now. Would a revolver be an SD carry choice for many in America?

It's a beautiful revolver and in a great caliber. The holster marks and a little wear make it more 'real' to me.

When you say 'ridiculous' did you mean ridiculously high or low? You know what we pay for our handguns so it could mean either for us depending on whether I'm wearing your boots or mine.

A new Model 10 goes for $739 but used Smith's don't generally lose their value much.
You really can't buy a decent handgun for $250 anymore.

A revolver is still carried, usually by the older guys but there are a lot of young guys who buy snubbies.
With the advent of Concealed Carry, snub nose revolvers are more popular than ever.
You don't see the four and five inch barreled revolvers being carried for SD.
Being flatter, autos are usually preferred for in the waistband carry. Their increased capacity helps too.

I just couldn't get over how smooth and precise this revolver was.

Our range has a pistol range at 90 degrees to the main range so simultaneous shooting with multiple shooters can take place.

you may not be a revolver fan but you sharp shoot.

Thats a really great revolver to have at that price; the minor wear from usage only adds to the character. Maybe Liang could consider switching to wood grips to add to the awesome looks of this classic gun although I am certain the current grips lend a great feel and hold.

I have always wanted an S&W revolver. You are right - used S&W's do command a premium and are usually snapped up by avid buyers.

To import them into Canada I think https://www.irunguns.us/ provides such a service. The only issue would be that the barrel needs to be at least 4.2" (over 105 mm) - what a pity!

Yes, CK, that was 7 yards (21 ft).
Its too bad about the importation issues.

Some days are better than others at the range.
Sometimes everything clicks and sometimes one can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn, from the inside.
In this case, I think it was the gun and not me.

Navi, if you do, keep in mind that the finish is marred but the guns seem fine.
The grips will differ on a gun by gun basis , according the the seller.

The M10 in 38 spl and the M13 in 357 is one of my favorite guns.

The 3 in Heavy Barrel M10/13 are great for concealed carry.

I have several of each. My favorite is the M65 Ladysmith 3 in HB in 357.

The M65 Ladysmith is great for women who conceal carry.

With 125 gr 357 mag loads they shoot well.

I have not seen a used one for sale in local gun store for a long time.

Used police guns have been carried much and shot little.

Usually a good buy.
