Pistol or Revolver

Of late, I got an Arm Licence and wish to buy either Pistol/Revolver. Bit confused whether to buy Pistol or Revolver. Please do suggest me on this. Also, what is the procedure involved in buying Pistol/Revolver.

friend all depends on how many deep pockets you have.
indian pistol and revolver ranges from 1 to 2.5 lacs.
imported...from 3.5 lacs to .25 to 15 lacs for .32 walther down south.

Congratulations on getting your license. Revolvers are generally considered more reliable than pistols, although (most) pistols can be easily concealed (in my opinion) and are much easier to reload.

As far as getting the weapon endorsed is concerned, here is what you can expect

1. Purchasing Weapon from Area endorsed on License
i. purchase the weapon, get receipt
ii. get weapon endorsed on license (if bought from private party, then you need to give copy of their license with their weapon deleted or present their license for deletion)

2. Purchasing Weapon from an Area not endorsed on License
i. Get Details of Weapon
ii. Get copy of license of dealer or private party
iii. Get NOC from your licensing office to purchase that weapon
iv. Go purchase the weapon, get recepit
v. Get TL from the place where you purchase the weapon. Any ammunition you purchase from here will have to be mentioned on the TL
vi. Come back and get weapon endorsed on license (if bought from private party, then you need to give copy of their license with their weapon deleted or present their license for deletion)

Thanks for the quick and detailed info. I heard that, if I buy Indian make from IOF, I need to wait for 3-24 months. Is that true?

Currently booking period for .32 IOF revolver is around 3 months and that for .32 IOF Pistol is around 12 months.

Given a choice between an IOF Revolver & an IOF Pistol , I would go for the Revolver .

I think you have a buy a gun and get it endorsed with-in 3 months of getting your license. Given that the waiting period for IOF guns is 3-24 months, you may have to apply for an extension.....

A revolver is like a safari suit, kind of outdated . Technically speaking the weapon is not quiet as balanced as a pistol where you hold the heavier part of it. Its something like holding a hammer by its head where it balances better as against holding the handle . Further its easier to load a magazine into a pistol than loading six bullets in a revolver. On the flip side pistols unless got from big brands jam frequently. In a gun fight this could mean life or death . What do cops do in most countries. They carry a pistol as a primary weapon and small backup revolver.......

I would look for a revolver unless I have deep pockets for buying pistol from good manufacturers. Pistols range in between 1-15 lakh depending on brands like IOF, Llama, Colt etc. However I would suggest you visit a renowned and friendly arms dealer (take IFGians help) in your city to check his inventory. And prior to visiting the dealer do your homework on make/brands, price. age, usage etc. And do not forget to help of an experienced friend.

As if we have a choice. Asani is the only option. However if you could do transfer of residence would suggest a Walter ppks or ppkl .32

My friend,
i got licence in 2010 that time i purchased 2004 model iof revolver from roorkee from a shop that time i was facing some security issues and pocket was not that heavy to go for imported one..
after few months i faced problems like breakage of firingpin got it fixed by rivet from un house, that was first turnoff for me,
One day i have to fire 6 rounds continous in a place and found 2 rounds were missed, i sold th revolver and got a new iof pistol,
I faced jamming problems as shellz got jammed in reloading, my fTher buyed a new iof revolver and after many times of its study i cam eto decision that buying iof new revolver is one of the safest and most economical decision one should take if he is using it for primary safety weapon. I had. Compared that from booking a iof .32 u can get atleast ensurity thatbweapon is not repaired all parts are oroginal and it has latest refined technology. The new revolver trigger is hard but it provides u concidence that atleast your first round will never miss.. Add glory if u use imported catridge..

I have written all thinhs genuinely... Go fof new weapon.. Ur walther or webley can also be spurios orr with duplicate parts.
Until u buy from known shop.. All gum owners mihht not be able to find genuine shops so go for newrevolver.. Ashani pistol is not reliable..as i own one and changing to revolver now

Thanks Ankur, I will go by your suggestion and buy IOF .32 revolver. How about its size. Is it concealable while carrying? the weapon is going to be with me almost for 12 hours a day.
