Email them and I will post them for you, if you wish. BTW, It's nice to know that you are a collector of handguns. We would love to know more about your collection and any photos you can share of them. Thanks again.

Hello Spedini,

Welcome to Indians For Guns.

Lucknow is the capital city of the State of Uttar Pradesh (formerly the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh) in North India. Uttar Pradesh itself means northern province. Lucknow was the fourth most populous city in British India in 1911.

It was the scene of fierce and bitter fighting between Indians and British in 1857 in what the British called the Great Indian Mutiny and the Indians the First War of Independence. Most of the action took place around the Residency, the complex of buildings where the British Resident at the Court of Oudh and other British officers stayed. Lucknow has a large cantonment or military area, being the headquarters of the Central Command of the Indian Army. That is the area where Capt Mahony's father probably stayed and where Capt Mahony was born.

I will try to locate and mail some pictures to you once I have your address. I can be contacted at miroflex at yahoo dot com.

All the best.

Thank you Peter for posting the picture. This is by far the most pristine WW I vintage Webley I have seen. It is a treasure. I cant help staring at that prominent barrel rib.

As Captain Mahony rests in peace may his companion live forever to tell his story.

Regards

TC

Thank you TC for your nice words.I managed to trace Captain Mahonys grandchildren who now live in Angus Dundee Scotland and they gave me additional information. One of the grandchildren gave me copys of the letters from Captain Mahony to his father written just before he was killed. It is very sad reading and it shows what a fine gentleman Captain Mahony was.
I will try to send some more pics from my Webley collection later when l`ve learned to size them down for the forum.
Kind regards
Peter
