We were used to outdated weaponry even in that era it seems.
God save the country.

I think the revolver is a .45 Thomas revolver made by J Thomas around 1890s... It could also be a Webley Tranter in .450 cal... both revolvers had striking similarities and one would need closer inspection for proper id.

Savarkar was a man of good taste. Both these models were among the most sturdy and powerful ones those days.

Hi ngrewal... I am 90 per cent sure about the revolver. Has to be one of them. I am sure you can dig deeper.
As far as Savarkar is concerned I am no fan of his. Just that my grandfather (mom's dad) was a senior Hindu Mahasabha leader and Veer visited my mom's house and even stayed there for a day or two. I heard about him when I was a kid.

Grewal ji,
Gaddar movement strated much earlier than veer savarkar joining armed movement despite the most powerful movement it failed due in latter stage due differences and betrayal by its own leaders some of the top leaders becomes undercover agents to nab the motivated youths same trend went with hindustan republican party of Bhagat Singh and Chandershekar azad these persons were betrayed by their mentors .In ghadar party when large number of their leaders were killed or arrested then a small armed group called babar akalis was seperated who carried out armed movement from 1925-46 .Yes it is true vir sawarkar was demoralied after his failed escape attempt and after his detention in port blair jail. One of the daring babar akali was the banta Singh who carried out many daring actions for the first time in legal history mass executions of 9 persons were carried in lahore jail it was of Kishan Singh and 8 others who never defended themselves nor preferred appeal and were hanged with piano wires instead of ropes. As all the babar akalis were from britisharmy they used handbombs,32 bore revolvers,12 bore guns and .303 rifles .They assasinated DIG Bitey in 1944 Late president Giani jail singh was also collbaroter this group I got informatiom about this from a 1950 book in Bangla saheb Gurdwara which mentioned the police reports of this groups.
Veer Sawakardid help the british intelligence with information with regard to ras behari bose it was suspected.

Thanks for the feedback -connection is between Gadhar and India house in London which promoted nationalists views and thats where Veer et al lived common link can be traced to Lala Hardyal, Lala Lajpat rai and other luminaries. Another important person less known unfortunately was Baga Jatin the Bengali revolutionary who was part of Hindu German conspiracy. Whether Veer was british agent maybe its buried in archives of British records in UK.
BTW we do have an eminent member here whose grand uncle was part of the Ghadhar movement who was specifically sent to US by Jatin and lived an exiled life in US worked very closely with Ghadhars too. Remember even Netaji met Veer but Sardar patel et al avoided him like plague. He was complacent in Gandhijis murder. Mahatama was a consummate politician even sardar patel said he is a dictator who rules with love and patience. Gokhale had his misgivings about Gandhi and Gandhi wanted a single party system which caused him to have issues with Jinnah, Netaji Bose ( he was basically taken out politically by Gandhi and Patels cabal during his second congress president tenure - Netaji was sick and every one questioned him! brits always reserved toughest prison term for him sent to Mandalay in Burma for prison term), veer et al. They were all first among equals so ego issues were expected ( remember Netaji topped ICS exam, Jinnah was a top lawyer or professional just like Moti Lal Nehru self made folks) and these differences probably were exploited by British intelligence to the hilt ! Jinnah was close to Gokhale and Tilak felt he was pushed out by Mahatama

Now Giani Zail Singh and Babbar thats a news to me - he did participate in movement against PEPSU states and there was story about how Faridkot Raja dragged him behind a jeep. He did make life misreable for Faridkot family..another divisive personality remarkable CM ( being a Non Jat) but had a dubious role to play in Punjab problem. Mainly his fight against Darabara Sinhg which spiraled out of control..rest is infamous history.
