Indians For Guns

Hello All,

What are some of the options in a .357 Revolver that are available in India? Any idea on what they would sell for?

I understand that obtaining ammo is a challenge for these, but the 50 rounds that I can bring back yearly should suffice.

I dont think, .357 might be available in india....
there is no alternate to .357's look and power (also called the 'hole maker')
u might settle for .32 Webley & Scott, S&W. revolver. these are the best still available. but mind u, these babies come costly nowadays, as the gun dealer might charge as he want. as i am told that after 1971 the govt stopped importing any sort of handguns from abroad.(SAD) just try to look around local gun store, they might show u some good weapons.
Also u might look for TAURUS .32 revolver. it is too a decent option i have seen it and it looks somewhat same with .357, try to search, it would be an eye candy.
As in pistol sections, there are a lot of options, like COLT, S&W, LLAMA,BROWNING, and also a turkish piece (i dont remember the name) keep in mind that, most of these guns have .32 bore. as per our laws, we cant have bigger bores in hand guns.
there are also, other country made options from IOF, if u like.

For the right (read lot)money and with a lil effort .357 can be bought... Ammo also gets expensive...

INSAS,if you think Webley revolvers are expensive try to find out what the going price of .357 mag revolvers are BTW, the older Taurus revolvers floating around are a POS.Avoid them.Also you would be surprised to know that the law does not restrict you from buying a calibre bigger than .32. That is what we are talking about a .357

Thanks for the reply guys. I already have a Mk IV in the family (my mom's, which I plan on keeping once she gets a .22) and wanted to get a revolver other than a Webley or an IOF.

The problem is that I've tried contacting a few dealers in Delhi and most of them just don't have anything besides IOF or Mk IV available. The only dealer in Delhi who seem to have a decent collection are the (pompous?) folks at Shardha Gun House. I just wanted to get an idea of what options and price points to expect before I go check out their stock.

Kandarp try to contact dealers in Mumbai... There is a market for .357 out there but prices are high.

@winnie: it is obvious that the price of .357 is ought to be high. so i didnt mention.
also, till now i havent seen any local arms dealer selling a .357, as if any one owning a .357 would hopefully not give up the weapon, a very small chance that a .357 would be available, and if 'yes' then it would be marvellous.
and thanks for enlightening about legality of .357 i was unaware. as i have had seen that most of gun sellers in mumbai have a max of .32 bore with them in handgun section.
the foreign weapons are obviously costly (their price jumps more than that of gold )

A dealer in Mumbai had a Colt Python when I inquired about a month ago, according to him it was in good condition and wanted 7 lakh rupees for it. Not sure if he still have it and Pythons are prone to timing mess up.

Perhaps that particular example may have some issues. Can you share details of Dealer pls?

A python for 7 big ones is insane around the world but in India it's a steal..... Infact too good to be true.... Hmmm I d like one of those ....... And sire colt python or any colt is a very desirable revolver with solid mechanicals and are extremely reliable. These tales of em being bad are just made up by people with no knowledge and are a result of buying an uncared and damaged piece without knowledge about the gun and what to look for when buying a used gun.

So the moral of the story is that I should stick with my mom's Webley .32 and not even bother looking into a .357 revolver?
