Rust Pit in WB Mark IV
Helllo All,
I was cleaning my Father's old Webley Scott Mark IV revolver (bought by my father and transferred to my mother after his death) and noticed that there is a tiny (less than 2 mm in diameter and not very deep) Rust Pit inside the barrel, overlapping a groove. The pit is at a depth of 1 inch from the end of the chamber.
I showed it to an Arms Dealer (Oriental Arms in CP, New Delhi) and they told me that I should not be worried.
I wanted to know if
a) The gun would be safe to fire with said damage to the barrel?
b) Would the location, right on the groove, affect its accuracy?
c) Is there a Dealer in Delhi that would be more knowledgeable about this?
Thanks for your help,
Kandarp
P.S. I would post pictures, but the location of this make it impossible to click a decent picture.

The gun will not be harmed by the small pit. On a rifle, pitting at the muzzle is a concern as that is where accuracy is affected but not so much at the breech end but even that is not much cause for alarm in a weapon intended for the short distances such as your revolver.
If you have not done so, give the barrel a good scrubbing with hot soapy water and then dry thoroughly, then lightly oil.

Mark,
Appreciate the response, I'm elated to know that this will have no major impact on the revolver or its accuracy.
I didn't soap it, but did give it a good scrub with WD-40, then wiped clean, stripped and oiled all components.
Thanks,
Kandarp

Leave a coating of oil in the barrel. Just use a dry patch before firing.
I would keep a coating of oil in the bore and renew it periodically as (depending on the oil used) some light oils can evaporate away.

Take her out to practice once in a while, shoot some rounds. This usually keeps the gun happy and healthy

Re: Rust Pit in WB Mark IV
XL thanks for the advice. I will do that in a few days.
BowMan, I'd love to, but the Revolver is currently on my mom's license, waiting to have it transferred to me so that I can take it to the range . Will get my mom something more manageable in exchange (maybe an IOF .22)

If I were in your situation I would not even consider an IOF .22, that too something which has been passed on in the family.
