Re: hyper velocity .22 ammo
I heard only CCI and IOF ammo and occasionally Federal is available in India. Let's hope somebody with more knowledge will help us out.

I tell you what, if you dont have any budget problems, go for other brands other than KF. The KF have a least amount of gunpowder. Take a .22 KF made ammo and shake it close to your ear, you can hear the amount of gunpowder.. it is very less

You do not need to stuff a cartridge with powder. If you can hear powder moving around, that means nothing. The charge would depend upon the powder.LAWMSIAMA wrote:Take a .22 KF made ammo and shake it close to your ear, you can hear the amount of gunpowder.. it is very less

Shouldn't the powder be packed tight using filers if necessary?winnie_the_pooh wrote:You do not need to stuff a cartridge with powder. If you can hear powder moving around, that means nothing. The charge would depend upon the powder.LAWMSIAMA wrote:Take a .22 KF made ammo and shake it close to your ear, you can hear the amount of gunpowder.. it is very less

Re: hyper velocity .22 ammo
The quantity or volume of propellant in a cartridge case depends on the burn rate of the powder used. Cordite stick filled ammo made earlier didn't make sound when shaken and were generally stuffed till the neck, hence this misconception about metal cased ammo. Anyways cordite sticks were never used in making .22 lr ammo.

No. Ideally the case should be at least 85% full, as with less you'll start to get variable ignition, especially with slower powders. Cartridges loaded with cordite usually had an overpowder wad to keepp the cordite strands against the base for uniform ignition; also to take up space in the long-necked British nitro express cartridges. What applied to the old cordite cartridges does not apply to modern nitro powders. Powders vary in bulk, charge varies with burn rate, and projectile weight. Just because you can hear powder in the case when shaking it next to your ear does not mean the case is underloaded.

Re: hyper velocity .22 ammo
Until a year or so ago lots of different ammo was available in Mumbai, including the high velocity stingers. I haven't checked lately but I don't see why these shouldn't be available now.
