The world is filled with violence. Because criminals carry guns, we decent law-abiding citizens should also have guns. Otherwise they will win and the decent people will lose

DOM,
As far as handguns are concerned, all service calibres are in the Prohibited Bore list. You can own anything else.
Service calibres are .455,.38-200,9mm luger and .45ACP.So technically you can own anything from a .500S&W to a .22 Short as long as it is not one of the aforesaid service calibres. There has been a ban on the import of firearms since 1986.As a result the ones that were already in the market have become very expensive. The last I heard, dealers were asking for about 17-18 lakhs for a .357 Mag.
The silver lining is that as per the new manufacturing policy on firearms, the govt. has allowed the manufacture of arms by private companies for sale to civilians. This was hitherto a monopoly of the public sector Ordnance Factory Board (IOFB).The best product that they (IOFB) make is the rip off of the Sauer 202.A very accurate rifle. However, aesthetically a mess.
