Shooting range with a Buckmark and Beretta 85

Post by Sakobav » Thu Mar 15, 2012 9:03 am

Its been a while since I was active here trying to claw back from Sabbatical. First things first I used my shooting range membership after long time - availed the opportunity to shoot my Bucksmark .22 using Ely ammo about 50 shots had three misfires. Fired at 10 yards and then 50 yards targets pistol behaved nicely my grouping was awful, expected when I soot once in a blue moon. I have been seriously thinking of swapping .22 with a .380 ACP so tried out Beretta 85 ( others are SIg232 and CZ 82/83) . I liked the gun and this pup is loud either my grip was off I didnt like the grip for some reason at the 50 yards couldnt even nail the target it would shoot low - shot round of 50 pistol was old but worked flawless. Although ammo is way pricey compared to .22 . This is a range in NYC a basement to be precise will try to post more pictures later . Snaps of shooting related posters I saw in Western goods hop here - These all are Iphone photos with shaky hands

Aloha,

Beretta 80 series in 380 are probably the most comfortable and easy to shoot.

Wife and I have several 380s and the 84 and 86 are our favorites.

But, we have not shot either one at 50 yards. Next time I have a chance I will try shooting

at longer ranges.

Most of the shooting I do and teach basic handguns are at 10 yards(30 feet) or so.

Using a two handed grip, standing, our 84 and 86 can group 2 inches easily.

The Browning is made for target work, the Beretta isn't.

The Wife and I consider the 380 cal guns as close in Self Defense guns.

If Hawaii had Concealed Carry, we would feel comfortable in carrying our 380 Berettas.

Yogi - This is first time I ever fired a pistol of this caliber. I have read great things about this gun another such pistol which I passed on was an used Browning BDA 380. Its also said to be one of the easiest pistol to dismantle ( also has chromium plated barrre?) next I will try Sig Sauer 232 or CZ 83. Recoil is a big thing for me. These days one can pick up 9mm 40 caliber guns of same size as this pistol.

Baljit - Just git busy with work and caring for some one through sickness - I had to renew the permit or license so finally took it to range

Vikram - I will post more pictures later

Cheers

Aloha,

The Browning BDA was made by Beretta for Browning.

It is basically a Beretta 84 with an enclosed slide.

Beretta magazines work in the BDA.

Wife has a Rainbow Titanium finish Sig in 380.

Got it for her because she likes Pretty guns.

Shooting wise, its recoil is sharper than the Beretta.

No experience with the CZ, can't say how it shoots.

Navi: thanks for those very interesting pictures -- naturally, I like that poster for Colt revolvers! :-) BTW, to the right hand side of that picture, I see some pottery. Do you know anything about that? It is pueblo pottery, and I wondered if the gentleman collected it, or if it was just greenware (factory made pots that are subsequently hand painted).

Thanks all - a gentleman next to me had the 375 in Rhino Chiappa http://chiappafirearms.com/products/75

With the bullet firing from the lower barrel the recoil is better handled and barrel doesnt flip up.

timmy - its a shop in china town who sell decorative, leather shoes, indian items from reservations your neck of woods. Western theme goods store, owned by Palestinian brothers in China town of NYC - a melting pot

Yogi - CZ 83 , Beretta 80 series, BDA ( I did see a used one) cant be tagged as CCW they are decent in size - I will be looking to fire Sig P232.

Cheers

Aloha ngrewal,

Here is my Wife's Sig P232, Rainbow Titanium finish

Image

Fits our hands nicely, comfortable to grip.

Besides being a bit snappier recoil than the Beretta 80 series, the Sig has a european style bottom

magazine release. We find this type of release harder to use when a Quick magazine change is needed.

In any case, which ever gun you get, make sure that it comes with a minimum of 3 functioning

Factory magazines.
