It is sinful to say the least .
It's always better to have a gun and not need it than need a gun and not have it !

What about all the hundred and thousands of Enfields and all and any small arm that belonged to the armed forces destined for the melting pot in India itself?

Enfields are melted? For what... Oh god. This is but the devils doing. A bit of history is lost with each gun. Wi cant they just sell them to us poor folks. I am sure they are ready to make some money.

Not just the SMLE's, but ALMOST ALL PB calibre firearms which are being phased out are slated for destruction in India. This includes, but is not limited to, .455 & .38 Webley revolvers (including some sweet collectible ones, like the Fosbery models etc.), the .410 SMLE single shot muskets, .303 SMLE's (including some collectible jungle carbine & sniper versions), eventually all of the SLR/ FN-FAL versions made in India, all of the M2 .30 Carbines (select fire versions), most of the remaining M1 .30 carbines (including collectible folding stock paratrooper versions), many hues of semi-auto pistols etc. etc. etc.
The Indian security forces (military/ police/ para-military) have with them a rich history of small arms - some common (but serviceable, maybe after a barrel change etc.), others less common and somewhat collectible and many which are quite interesting and unique to the sub-continent (like the .410 SMLE musket). ALL will eventually be destroyed and this heritage will be lost, BECAUSE OUR OWN ELECTED Govt. DOES NOT TRUST the CITIZENS OF INDIA.

Whew! Really got my blood boiling at the thought of what is happening in India itself... I really hope our generation digs it's heels in and works HARD towards stopping what is happening here - else our kids may end up inheriting a country where one needs a license to even own a stick!

Re: The Horror... The Death of 6000 GOOD guns
I was able to bear up under this onslaught of bad news until I read this:
As someone who'd really love to have a Webley-Fosbery and will never be able to afford one, this is especially troubling. It really makes one wonder how people can be so wrong-headed.(including some sweet collectible ones, like the Fosbery models etc.)

Re: The Horror... The Death of 6000 GOOD guns
Well , sometimes the news is not as bad it is seen or predicted... , the kickback culture and under the table agreements occur every where in the world... and india is not country alone having kalmadis and a rajas where they are willing to sell out each and every part or asset of the country to the convenience of the corrupt business men ... .
Sometimes the vision of the top notch people is more than wide they can see the viability of the project as well as the alternate option. The weapons could have been sold in an open global tender to the not o rich countries for their defense purposes or just given away at nominal price but who will tell the fools what the blunder they have done .
Sometimes logistics is also an issue for maintaining diff type of ammunition and uneven distributed merchandise ... and also may any of the weapon may have fallen short of performance in a critical circumstance on the issue of " national security " some times the " national interest " is overlooked and the unnecessary josh takes over the hosh....
all we can do is to remain silent for 6000 seconds ( of course during night when we sleep ) to lament over the untimely demise of good weapons and guns that could be a matter of honour for the owner........
