The .327 Federal Magnum

In Maharashtra, the .357 magnum is PB, but the .327 FM does not fit into the PB category and would be interesting for chaps hailing from Maharashtra and returning on TR, to get hold of this weapon.
The .327 Federal Magnum cartridge was introduced by Ruger and Federal Cartridge. This cartridge won the NRA Publication’s Golden Bullseye award for ‘Ammo of the Year’ 2009. For those who find the recoil and muzzle blast of the .357 uncomfortable, it is reported that the .327 recoil and muzzle blast are more manageable and its performance almost equal to the .357.

Firstly.... I thot the .357 was a NPB. :O. Oh and the .327 is jus a magnum loading of the .32. The .32SWL or the .32 H&R Mag can be fired from the same with out any Mods. But for now there isnt much choice of guns. I like the GP100 though. A friend of mine in LA popped a cpl of these round at the range.

Yes the .357 magnum, .44 mag in Maharashtra is a PB. I was myself interested in this calibre, till I was informed by a senior colleague of mine.
In A.P. and Punjab, to the best of my knowledge it is not. So if you are from either of these states, you should be ok.

Hi HV,you are right,357 is PB there,in most of the States its NP,45 is an NP in Mumbai,rest everywhere its PB,38 Special is NP in Delhi,rest PB ,was reading regarding the 327 F,Mag,i was wondering on the ammo front,CCIs 357 are for about Rs 350 a POP,32 Mags more or less Rs 350 a POP, 22 WMRs Rs 80-Rs 150,around the world a lot of Cals are there but here, 32,25 and 22s are the best choice---,Mera Bharat Mahaan

Guys I am not trying to belittle what is being said by members in this thread about solutions to what is PB as construed by some Licensing Authourities in some states. There is no doubt that as a cartridge the .327 FM is a good cartridge and compareable to .357 Magnum. But if this is presented by members as a "solution" to bypass the capricious and whimsical interpretation of the law by these authourities, I disagree. If this is not checked and we continue to explore "escape routes" the days are not far when we will not be left with any "escape routes", probably nothing above .22 will be NPB. Contrary to popular perception, PB firearms do not have any extra "power" or ballistic properties over NPB firearms. PB/NPB is the legacy of the British Raj. It was done by them to ensure that Armed forces and civilians have different bores for their firearms. The main purpose: In event of mutiny the ammunition looted from government armories does not fire from civilian firearms.

I am just presenting the legal meaning of what is PB or NPB. Arms Act 1959 and Arms Rules 1962 are equally applicable through out the territory of India and cannot have a different meaning in different parts of India.

Any ammunition not in Sec. 2(1)(i) and Sec. 2(1)(h) of Arms Act 1959 OR not in category I(b) and I(c) of Arms Rules 1962 SCHEDULE -I OR if not notified by Centre by a notification is non prohibited ammunition.

These Licensing Authourities can be asked to provide "Information" as to under what Section of Arms Act 1959, under what section of Arms Rules 1962, under what Notification by Centre they are classifying these bores as PB. Either they will state in reply that these are NPB or state that these are PB as per XYZ reason. If they state these are PB then, the certified copies stating that .357, .44 mag. .38 Special etc. are PB can be given to court and matter be very easily, successfully contested.

Thank you for your comments and I agree by your opinion about strengthening NAGRI. You are by no means "a poor sod" for IFG or NAGRI or any gun lover in this country, it is just an expression of your humbleness and greatness.
