The half cock was a last line of safety which was not really meant to be a safety but a last ditch effort to prevent AD/ND. I am well versed with The Sight but I have never read anywhere nor heard from anyone that keeping the trigger pressed and deactivating the thumb safety would bring the hammer to half cock. If someone is using this to half cock the hammer on a loaded chamber it is just an accident waiting to happen.

The newer 1911s have the firing pin block (FPB) as you say; there are 2 kinds if I'm not mistaken; the series 70 and series 80 types.

Someone did a test of an older non-FPB gun and concluded that AD by dropping the gun under day to day circumstances was next to impossible.
