Re: The Boberg XR-9 pistol
I believe Boberg Arms is finally shipping the XR-9S at this time.

Re: The Boberg XR-9 pistol
XL...
The young lady has made us proud once again. The ad looks great. Please congratulate her on our behalf.
The pistol design is unlike anything that has come up in recent times. The only pistol I can remember having the rearmost breech until now is the German Heckler and Koch P7 squeeze cocker. The breech stands much behind the trigger in the P7 mainly because its a striker fired weapon with the front strap of the grip, or the cocker, putting the striker in battery position before every shot and the trigger releasing the striker. That's the reason why the P7 is safe to carry with a round in chamber because it wont fire unless the grip is squeezed fully and the trigger released. The XR9S must be using something similar but without the squeeze cocker. Are you planning to get one ?
Here's a pic of the P7 M13 ... a marvel in engineering according to me. 13 shot. Full length barrel in a short body.
From here http://hkp7.com/p7m13.htm
Caliber 9 mm,
Mag capacity 13
Barrel length 4.13 inch,
Height 5.3 inch
Overall length 6.9 inch
Weight without mag 1.87 lbs
Width across grip 1.30 inch
The original P7 did not have any external safety because of the reasons I mentioned. But in 1983 the Mexican government wanted H&K to make a pistol with an external safety and hence the P7M13 DIM with a sliding safety on the right side of the frame was born. About 3000 of these were made.

Re: The Boberg XR-9 pistol
TC, I would love one. Unfortunately, I can't afford the Boberg.
The P7 is a great pistol. Very safe and very accurate. I have fired one.
It had one flaw; on extended firing, it gets very hot in the trigger area. Several attempts were made to shield the trigger area but they still got hot.

Neat one,XL. It seems to be employing the bullpup concept to achieve the barrel length. Thanks for sharing.

Re: The Boberg XR-9 pistol
I agree with Vikram - an ingenious and tricky way of getting the advantages of a longer barrel in a compact form. Thanks for sharing, XL!

Thanks for sharing the hot trigger syndrome of the P7. I always thought it was one of the most ingenious designs though never came across too many test reports.
Probably someone in the H&K design department wanted to discourage people from going trigger happy
But I am sure you have your eyes on the Boberg.... maybe in the near future.

Re: The Boberg XR-9 pistol
Now that's a very important question.... with the breech sitting right above the firing hand... the bore axis so high above i.e.ngrewal wrote: how was the recoil for folks like me with small hands??

Re: The Boberg XR-9 pistol
Navi,
I, personally, have not fired the XR-9S .
However, I have talked to people who have and they say that the recoil is very manageable and recovery for a second shot is good.
Vikram, Tim,
Actual test results have some significantly increased velocity and energy over other pistols of similar size.
They also have one with a longer barrel (4.2") without too much of an increase in size.

Re: The Boberg XR-9 pistol
This is a very awesome design, initial version has reliability issues that were reported but looks like they managed to get over it. Also with the pull-push design, it is bit finicky with the ammunition. If the bullet is not crimped properly to the casing (cheap and reloads), then in the pull cycle the bullets separates from the casing.

This superb handgun is now available in Canada (The shortest barrel length you can have in the restricted category is +4.2 Inches). The Two-tone version retails at $1,500.

Re: The Boberg XR-9 pistol
Best part is they have California version of this, they ship it as SSE along with the original barrel. So anyone in California interested, do so before the door closes on Jan 1.
Hopefully will get hands on it in next 6-8 weeks (they have wait for 4 wks, plus CA 10 day!).
