Importing a Rifle is allowed only to Sport person of repute. Those who have qualified MQS.
Now on top of that Sniper, I dont think any sniper rifle will fall in legally allowed weapons.

Going OT:
A sniper rifle is for snipers. Are you one? From a pure accuracy viewpoint, most competitive guns will out shoot mil spec sniper rifles all day long.

Going OT, why is it then that the competitive guns is not used by snipers?? Just curious.MoA wrote: From a pure accuracy viewpoint, most competitive guns will out shoot mil spec sniper rifles all day long.

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

m24,
All Sniper Rifles are equipped with precision telescopic sights which unfortunately is not allowed in competitive big bore target shooting. It is virtually impossible with an iron sight of any kind to shoot accurately at the distances a sniper is supposed to engage a target. Besides, the targets that the snipers indulge in at times, shoot back at them as well .

Re: Which is your most favourite NPB hand gun
Marksman,
Thanks for the reply but that's not my point. For eg. the M24 SWS is a version of the Remington 700 series. It starts of as a 700 and goes on to become the M24. It undergoes changes. And from what I can gather from MoA's post is that a competition gun will perform better than a sniper's weapon any day. Then why can't these comp. guns be made into better variants of sniper weapons?? Why has that not been thought about as yet?? Because in a vague sense, both the sniper and the competition shooter is doing the same thing. Taking out targets, only the conditions vary.

Re: Which is your most favourite NPB hand gun
Many competitors using 6.5mm and you can find large number of military tactical sniper rifles in .308 too.
here one article about such calibers,
http://www.tactical-life.com/online/spe ... creedmoor/
but general opinion is that for military even 7.62 do not deliver sufficient punch on more then 1000m distance. IMO 1000m will be soon semi auto territory as quite a few such very capable rifles appeared recently and prices are down to the earth, for years only capable semi auto in this territory was HK MSG 90 with price about $16K.
In future we may see how sniper rifles will become sniper system, first such system was CheyTac with laser range finder, wind meter, ballistic calculator and scope mounted at proper angle. It can be very complex task for some one to assemble similar system for himself. Now few more such sniper system available, some are having more gear mounted on rifle or integrated to scope.
one more similar in functions to CheyTac sniper system
Asymmetric Warrior .338 LAPUA
http://www.tactical-life.com/online/spe ... lapua-mag/
you cant see any of such development in target rifles, unless it is quite possible to make a rifle which will pull the trigger in itself in a proper moment. that will be the end of target shooting, then.
great article on long range shooting

Soon it will happen, Mahindra and Tata, will make the best version of small airms. I am more positive to see Indian manufactures taking over global market and then we have more choice to experiment and write big review and talk more about it. he he he.
