1911 calibre conversions

I have had lengthy discussions with a gunsmith friend of mine regarding this very same topic and he said that it's not impossible but would be very expensive to do it. Basically every thing in the slide except for the firing pin would have to be changed/custom made. I had even dillydallyed converting a CZ 75 B to .32 ACP. Again same problem.

First of all it would have to be a blowback, then the breech face would have to be welded over and recut for the smaller cartridge or a separate breech face "pinned in" place. A new barrel and a magazine are required. The barrel can be made by sleeving a regular .45ACP barrel down to .32 and then removing the locking lugs. For a magazine the best we could come up with was insert a CZ 83 .32 ACP magazine inside a .45 ACP magazine(if that's even possible) so that it would engage the magazine release while (hopefully) feed the smaller cartridges.

All this without knowing for sure if it would work. The going rate in 2001/2002 for machine work was quoted as $60 per hour and we had no clue how many hours it would take to do this.

Hi guys.
The .32 barrel was an original colt .32 ACP in this particular pistol. Lately i also saw one with a locally made barrel. The original one had a 4-5 grooves, while this one had 3 grooves in it.
