Re: Model 686 S & W Revolver
yes .. i ll make sure I check the rules before carrying the gun into any forest.
IS there any consolidated site where i can get information on where i can \ cannot legally carry the weapon in MAharashtra (Pune to be specific) ?
Here in US each forest \ park has a website where the rules of firearm carry are clearly spelt out ... Guess that will not be the case in India.
hey one more question ... I assume that .357 would be available in Mumbai ? Do you see a problem with that ?
Secondly the cost is around 300 - 350 rs per round right ?
Lastly , looking at the cost , I dont think that i ll be shooting more than 30 - 40 rounds per year (that too if i find a range in Pune) ... IS that a common thing ? (ofcourse i understan i ll have to regularly clean \ oil the gun)
thanks

32 H&R Mag and 327 Federal Mag Revolvers chamber IOF 32
Hi NNP, another alternative for you are revolvers chambered in the newer 327 Federal Magnum. They will work with cheap IOF .32 revolver rounds, which you can use for practice and keep the box of fifty .327 rounds you import for self defence. The 32 H&R revolvers also chamber IOF .32's.

I don't know of any website where this info would be available. But the following is a brief list of "no carry zones" to get you started:NNP";p="62822 wrote: yes .. i ll make sure I check the rules before carrying the gun into any forest.

1) Educational institutions - schools/ colleges/ university campuses. Exceptions are usually made for members of the shooting team if there is an on campus range (my college had one, though it was pretty much defunct till the time I joined)
2) Government offices
3) Airports & railway stations
4) Wildlife sanctuaries
5) Most bars & restaurants (at least in Delhi) have prominent notices outside stating that firearms may not be carried inside by order of the local police.
6) Military installations
Only some of the above will have any physical checking to ensure that you are not carrying a firearm, however if you are caught with one you may have your license suspended/ revoked and in some cases it could get a lot worse.
Cheers!

Re: Model 686 S & W Revolver
hey rcdoma ,.. I really liked your idea of 327 Mag , which also chambers IOF .32 cartridges.
Well I think I will have to rethink if I really need a .357 MAg or .327 ....
Thanks again for the suggestion ... Please let me know if you are aware of any other handguns which can chamber the IOF .32 (ie .32 S&W long) ...
Also any idea if 327 MAg is available in India ? and for how much ?
thanks
NNP

Hi NNP! AFAIK only Ruger SP101, Charter Arms Patriot, S&W Model 632 and Freedom Arms Model 97 (cylinder conversion from 32 H&R) are available in 327 Mag. Read somewhere that Taurus is coming out with one soon.
Your chances of finding 327 Mag in India are pretty slim because it is only a year old. Your best bet is to get a box of 50 rounds with you and keep them for self defense and use the IOF .32 for practice.
Best,
Ram

Get the new federal mag revolvers and get back a box of 50 federal mag carts. Most if not all can chamber and fire all the .32 revolver rounds; .32 S&W, .32 S&W Long, .32 Mag and .32 fed mag.

Re: Model 686 S & W Revolver
Hi AMK , Ram , MCDonna ....
I finally got a Taurus 327 Revolver. I was looking for a Ruger SP101 , but the 327 calibers are rally out of stock and as soon as I saw this Taurus I bought it ...
Thanks a lot for this suggestion that you gave me ... I really like the idea of being able to practice with .32 ammo too ...
I will shoot it sometime next week and see how it goes ..
Thanks again you all ...
Regards

Congrats NNP! Hope it shoots to your satisfaction
. Is it with the 2" barrel? Ruger is currently dealing with some quality control issues with SP101.

Re: Model 686 S & W Revolver
I think the .327 Federal Mag would be an excellent choice for the fellows in India, with one caveat. Firing a lot of the shorter cartridges in the .327 chamber will eventually erode a radial groove at the case mouth, and the longer case expands into that groove, creating extraction difficulties with longer cases. If the shorter ones were corrosive, as the IOF .32 reportedly is, that would happen even quicker. So clean the chambers thoroughly with an appropriate cleaner as soon as possible after firing such ammo. While it no longer is common, few people shoot .22 Short RF anymore, we used to see that often with older .22s that had been fired a lot with .22 RF Shorts. Also, you'll have to allow for the different point of impact. Cheers.

Re: Model 686 S & W Revolver
hey RCDonna .. yes its with a 2 inch barrel. I wanted to go for a Ruger SP 101 , but did not get it so bought this one.
And you are right , there are some issues with the Ruger SP101 and there have been some recalls ... The dealer told me that they have stopped any further production of Ruger SP101 327 caliber till they fix that issue and also fix the problem with those models already in market. (I might have misunderstood this though)
TowRivers ... you got a point there .. using shorter cartridges could cause some problem , lets see how it goes.
How often do you all think i should clean the gun ? I heard it should be cleaned after every 200 rounds or so ... Also any suggestions for a good gun cleaning kit ? (In US)
Thanks
