I understand what Navdeep is saying. However, I am applying for a shotty licence now. If I put in an application for an additional rifle licence (I am not giving up my .22lr to make way for it) at the same time it could ruin my chances of getting either.mehulkamdar wrote:What Navdeep means is that penpusher has a friend who is willing to trade a 30-06 rifle for a semi auto shotgun. I was proposing a three way trade like NBA teams in US.. some how you get your shotty if penpusher et al can somehow locate a decent DBBL for you at a reasonable trade price, his friend gets a semi auto, penpusher gets the rifle...
Also A 5 in US ( Mehul can elaborate) are selling at premium even really old ones..

You know that gremlin about me and electronics? struck again-cant download pics from camera, can see them on camera though! All because someone in NY pulled out the flash card, loaded on comp and downloaded snaps of the conference-now I seem to have lost them all...Will buy a new flash card today when i go for professional help and snap away the fishing stuff and send them across to you.

Check the Ruger Mk II/III or 22/45
Bro, I'm sure you know about the Ruger 22s. In my future (IA) is a Ruger Mk II or III Hunter. I really like the look and feel of these. The Mk III Hunter is especially beautiful and the Mk IIIs come with the mag release where it should be. I did however figure out an easy way to work the Mk II mag releases. Now that the Mk IIIs are here, you may get good deals on Mk IIs. Look around, you've got time. Before the Mk III Hunter, I always lusted for a Mk II 678 Govt Slabside.
If you're jealous of the SIG also look at the SIG Mosquito. It is a very nifty little 22, classic SIG, decocking lever and all. If you have the budget for a Trailside, you may also want to look at the S&W Model 41. If you want to go the revolver route, the S&Ws are really nice. I once went to a range to "look" and they were shooting an IDPA style fun match. One of the guys gave me his S&W 22 revolver and I shot IDPA with it. It was a real hoot, especially the reloading as I did'nt have moon clips or nothing and I had the reloads in my pocket.
Anyway, congratulations and please post pictures of whatever you get.

From my experience I like the Trailside much more than the 41 though either would be fantastic for some plinking and informal shooting. The Ruger is a classic but somehow I find it difficult to point well in my hands. That said, most people who have them just love them and I just may have different tastes...
The Whitney Wolverine is a design from the 1950s that was well ahead of it's time when it first came out and I have seen both the old guns as well s the new ones. I really love the design myself as it is extremely ergonomic with the trigger and safety in the trigger guard, making it very easy to shoot and render safe. It also points quite nicely even for someone who has unusual tastes like I do.
The time restriction that Navdeep has is a headache though he could go to any nearby club and check some guns out and make a choice in a day or two and then order one through an FFL dealer so that he gets it in time to present it for insoections etc.
Considering this kind of madness, am I glad I don't live in New York! It just doesn't make sense to live in a place that is as anti gun as India is after leaving India.

Now I am so damn busy that my plans driving up and down NYS wont happen...there is a gun store right next to Police HQ and thats where I am just going to run in and check out. There was a gun range in woodheaven that was closed and there is one on west side I will try to look into..
Also Sharief any advise on Beretta neo .22, SW 41 I believe is not being made any more.

Navdeep, I would not recommend the Neos. It feels very flimsy and toy like, for the same price you can get much better ones like the Ruger or Sig.
Are you definetly not thinking about revolvers. If you are the Ruger single six is also a nice little number. In my opinion, more fun than the autos, but I'd myself buy an auto before a revolver.
I'd suggest you go to New Hampshire, its about a two/three hour drive, hook up with Naren, go to the range in Manchester, rent as many 22s as you can and try them out. I drove Salem-Queens in three hours a few times. Like Mehul says, you have to be comfortable how the gun fits you. The Ruger Mk II/III have a steeper grip, but the 22/45 is not so much so try them both.
I think S&W still makes the 41. Its on their website.

The 41 is still made but it is VERY expensive compared to the prices you can get for the trailside from CDNN or other discounters at $ 1115 SRP. S&W have a cheaper model, the 22 which lists different versions from $ 340 to 390 SRP.
Quality wise, I would think the Trailside would run the 41 very close at the much lower price you get from discounters though dealers would definitely beat the S&W SRP as well to some extent.
I agree with Sharief on the Neos - too much like an airsoft toy than like a using pistol. In any case I have shot the 92, 92FS, the 96 and other larger Berettas and I consciously decided against buying a Beretta as my first handgun later this year. I don't like them, though there are many who do. To each their own...
Naren's offer is a good one and you should hook up with him and check some guns out. Hopefully, we'll have you guys with us for the IFG pheasant shoot later this year.

Thanks a lot for advise and Naren for the road trip offer. Believe you me guys when it rains it pours my whole month is hot.My project is about to go live and more than likely I am going to run into West side shooting gallery and test the pistols Sig/Ruger and Browning.

This is the status, lost the pistol lic ( long stupid story) got replacement issued today. Now all I have is July 6 and maybe 10 more days to buy the weapon. Three stores visited: Options: (1) SW .22 revolver 351 model $400 , 7 shot nice nifty thing (2) Claimed they had Walther p22 and Rugers today morning nope we are out of stock but can have a weapon in 1 day (3) third store ? very straightforward person has Ruger mk III Hunter same as Sharief?s recommendation for $400 (approx) and a SW 41 used for $900. He also checked around and cannot get his hands on Hammerli, plus he informed me its out of production now. Last dealer has had problems with CDNN so doesn?t work with them.
I am planning to visit third store to check it out what they have my time is limited . BTW there is a Federal check pending when I buy the weapon and then 72 hours of weapon check ..hence July 6 deadline dictates I deal with the choices I have ?
Any recommendations ?

S&W revolvers are usually very nice and smooth. A revolver is also more reliable than an auto in theory though in practise there is no real difference. Autos can be made less bulky, lighter and, in some cases, more accurate, though there is more theory here than practise - no one would call a Korth or Manurhin revolver inaccurate for example. You seem to have got some good handguns on offer - my suggestion would be to decide between the S&W revolver and the Ruger pistol. Both are at comparative prices and both are fine guns. Either would be good for plinking etc which is what you want to use them for.
BTW what is "weapon check"? Do you have to hand the pistol in for some kind of check? With that kind of madness my suggestion to you would be to move out of NYC when you can.
It isn't worth living in a place that is as anti legal gun owners as that in the USA.
