What is a rim lock...

Rimlock is where the rounds get jammed in a magazine.

It happens with semi-rimmed cartridges like the .32 ACP or with fully-rimmed ones like the .357 Magnum.

If the overall cartridge length is short enough, the round below the top one in the magazine can move forward. Then, the rim of the top round can slip behind the rim of the lower round, locking it in the magazine.

Can't happen with rimless or rebated rim cases like the 9mm, .40 S&W, .357 Sig and .45 ACP.

I was also hoping Timmy would give us his expert comments on Rim Lock in general and specifically in a .32 acp.

I cannot say that I have an "expert opinion." I do have a .32 ACP pistol, which is my chief carry gun and has been for a number of years -- it is a Czech CZ50.

(This one isn't mine, but I've posted mine up here a few times and this one is just like it.)

I've shot a selection of .32 ACP through this little pistol, including Remington, Winchester, Fiocchi, Aguila, Cor-Bon, and other kinds (the brands escape me at the moment).

I subscribe to the philosophy of ammunition effectiveness as expressed in this pdf document: http://www.firearmstactical.com/pdf/fbi-hwfe.pdf

I trust these tests and use them as my information source for selecting .32 ACP ammunition for my CZ50: https://web.archive.org/web/20120322175 ... l32acp.htm (note: this is an archive of an old website that is no longer available. If you wish to read it, it takes a while to load.)

I have generally loaded my magazines (I have two) with alternating rounds of Remington 71 gr FMJ and Cor-Bon. Based on these tests, I use only the Remington FMJ ammunition.

I have never had a rim lock issue and, after installing Wolff magazine springs, never had a jam with this pistol.

How any of this would apply to anyone else, I cannot say, except to note that our IFG brothers in India probably would not have the range of ammunition choices that I have.

In India we do get a .32 acp of a few imported brands but they are very expensive, 450rs per bullet and I don't know how they are legally imported. I do believe dealers are allowed to import 5 percent of the average of last three years total sale, but this is restricted to the Npb that are not manufactured by IOF.

I have being going through some imported ammo videos on youtube and somehow feel fiocchi has a rebated rim similar to that in a 9mm. Would you say that would be the best option.

After the way the IOF ammo keeps jamming in my iof pistol I just may buy a few imported ammo for self defense.

Apart from the ammo I do believe the feed of the mag and spring are to some extent responsible for the jams. Still cant find a proper gun smith to have this fixed.

Hi All,

EDITED BY MODERATOR

In the video I have fired 8 rounds and every shot was smooth. This is based on my little knowledge with firearms.

Background is a little bit messy and I wanted to edit it then I thought information is more important than it and this can be done later :D

Hope Helpful!!
