perfectionist1 wrote:@kandarp- The OWB holster (on the right side of pic) is supplied by IOF, it is of superior quality, better than you get anything in Kanpur with dealers, I have other owb holsters and shoulder holsters, but the good thing about this is that it has a belt loop and a clip as well, so hold to the pants quite firmly.
The LHS is IWB holster, got it from a dealer, is good and soft, but wearing out quickly.

Planning to buy a fanny pack for carrying :D comfortably.
Cheers....

Hi Pranjal,

Thanks and good to see you back after a long time.
It is FGK, took it due to 1 - quicker turn around time and 2- good response mechanism of FGK. SAF guys dont bother to even pick the phone, while FGK has a good tracking system on website as well.

Good quality for the price (in Indian context), nothing when compared to Webley.

I had to tighten a few screws myself :)

Cheers.....

SIrs,

One thing that I noticed in my IOF 0.32 revolver as a big difference as compared to Webley or S&W revolver is Rifling ( :) there are certainly other infinite differences)

As seen at http://www.indiansforguns.com/download/ ... &mode=view in Bowman's revolver the rifling is deep and very visible, while in IOF it is very light and the contours are very low.

Please comment if it is normal?

Cheers...

Dear Baba z - Sorry for delay in response was tied up in budgeting exercise for coming FY at work.

1. I am sure by now you might have got your call letter from FGK, else you can wait till 20 Jan.
2. If you have all UP license then only carry the following -
a. Original arms license
b. photocopy of arms license
c. Original FGK call letter
d. photocopy of FGK call letter

If you do not have UP valid license then you will need to get a TL ( Transfer Letter) and NOC.

3. Other trip -

a. Reach at the factory (which is at remote location) gates by 9-9.30 am max.
b. Do have arrangements of keep cell phone outside and do not carry ammo with you.
c. once inside the factory, they will collect your original license and original call letter and ask you to sign on a form.

d. wait in the waiting area which is in the same hall, you can watch TV till 11 - 11.30 am
e. All people waiting there will be called at the same hour one by one and given revolver, cleaning kit, carry case, holster and a lanyard.
f. Along with items mentioned at 'e', you will get Invoice and Delivery challan with your License - which will be stamped on a page with mention of revolver serial number and sign of GM - Works, FGK

- do not forget to check the revolver itself, like rifling to be there, check timing of the cylinder and any other visible flaw, see serial number is properly there. I know it is wrong, but there is no harm in dry firing once or twice there only.

For any issues (which is highly unlikely, except for your name and address spelling mistake which is common) report to the officer present there and refuse firmly to take the revolver.

i. CAUTION - check spelling of your name, revolver serial number, your address as per address mentioned on your license.
j. you will be allowed to come out the factory, will be approx 12 - 12.30 then, after making entry at the gate.
k. Guys, please, I have seen people exposing and playing with their revolvers outside the factory gate, showing off etc. do not forget Kanpur is not very safe and in that area there are snatching gangs reported to be active, so conceal the weapon with you and just walk off normally.

l. while going towards rly. station from FGK hardly a few meter on the left hand side, before the first round about (near a small hotel, forgot the name) there is a lane in which on lhs you will find OM Armoury, buy atleast 6 cartridges from there.

Remind you - do not talk to people present there or on road, they are nosy seeking your personal info. there is no need to give out anything. Just buy the cartridges, load 5 of them with one chamber empty immediate on the left hand side from the barrel facing chamber ( to avoid accodental discharge), and walk off after getting the ammo entered on the license and paying.

m. Go home straight without any show off

n. Enjoy shooting safe at your known place.

Hope this helps

Dear perfectionist1'
first of all thanks for the guidance, i am sure that these tips will definately help me and i will be more safe,
i will surely take all the precautions suggested by you,
see i am from Uttarakhand and my licence is only valid for UK, so obviously i will be needed an NOC and TL, suggest me the procedure of getting the TL. noc i will ahve to obtain from my licencing authority(Correct me if i am wrong)
also let me know about the checking of rifiling and timing of cylinder, , i have fired many times earleir but with pistol and DB guns and rifles of my Dad n Uncles. but never fired a single shot from a Revolver, i no nothing about a rev, so pls let me know about rifling and chamber timimg.
i am also planning to take my cousin along who has an All India Valid Pistol Licence, just for the safety concern.
we will surely travel by our own Vehicle from our place. so it can help.
pls suggest,
thanks once again.

Dear Baba Z,

Good that you are travelling by your own vehicle, you can leave your belonging and cousin outside the factory to wait (he will not be allowed inside)

By rifling means - the spiral grooves that are cut inside the revolver barrel which spins the bullet as it exits, since it has been reported by one member earlier that he got his revolver from kanpur with rifling missing  .

Timing is that when you adjust the cylinder the barrel facing chamber, exactly in line with the barrel, then do one dry firing, and open to see then the chamber (hole) that has come in front of the chamber must be perfectly aligned to the barrel hole.

There is no need to panic, there is nothing that bad out there, just suggested you to be cautious.

Since I had UP valid license so didnt needed to get NOC and TL.
However the best thing is that once you get your call letter, call FGK and ask them about the procedure of the same or you can meet your issuing office Aslaha Babu/ OC arms to know about it.

One gentleman from Chandigarh has told me that there are touts who help in this regards in Kanpur, but I would not suggest that route.

Cheers...

hi perfectionist1'
i got your points, i have seen the rifilings into my uncle's Rifle and thanks for explainig about the Chamber timiing, waise i was worried about that also but i didnt Knew the term TIMING Of CHAMBER,
accha 1 more thing ( you are so kind in answering my weired queries thats y i am asking this )
in case a revolver is loaded and its is properly locked, and by mistake just in case if it dropped down and hit the floor from the Hammer doest is fire or the lock of the revolver is enough to cure this accident?
this thing is bothering me, i am very confused.
