Need advice (Five-seveN)

Post by birdman » Mon Apr 12, 2010 2:44 pm

Hey guys,
Can anyone guide me on getting an Five-seven USG from India, any recommendation of dealers dealing in Imported Guns will be appreciated. Five-seven USG is currently authorized to SPG and other Indian Military wings, but as my Dad is an retired Indian Army Officer i think he might be able to get one sanctioned on his name.
Thanks in advance.

Never knew that Five Seven is in service in Indian Army. I doubt you can get permission to keep any gun with a caliber that is used by armed forces.

^ Thanks for the reply, the IOM variant of Five-seveN is available to civilians in US i am not sure about India though. The one issued to Government Agencies in India is USG model.

India and USA are world apart when it comes to gun ownership. You cannot simple compare them in any sense. Whats available for civilians in India is just some local made guns or super expensive old foreign made guns.
Also there are many restrictions on what caliber ( also called Non Prohibited bore) available to civilians.
Any cal used by govt agencies is called prohibited bore and its illegal to own them ( unless you have some special PB license) .
I guess you need to go through some threads on this forum to understand the situtation in India regarding guns available for civilians and general gun ownership situtation in India

Msandhu +1

Not very sure if ret fauji types can be allotted some serious , hi powered ( per press reports) weaponry.I thought it stopped at 30 cal rifles, 30 carbines and is getting tighter by the day
But then again, anything is possible in India...
What would you do with it, if you get one? ammo is next to impossible to source from a dealer, no great target use, only used for its so called penetration properties-supposedly good for taking out bad guys wearing flak jackets. At 19, as per your age on show here, start some decent target practice, use a decent target rifle/pistol and make it to the national/International grade.

Hello Birdman
U or Yr Dad are not authorized to keep this Gun. As a defense personal myself I know it very well and I m 100% sure. I am never seen five-seven in IAF.This gun is not for personal use. In general firearms in India are issued to civilians for self safety. And one more thing as msandhu said don't compare US and India in regard of use of fire arms

Thanks
PP

@ magestic i have seen and held Five-SeveN USG issued to someone working @ SPG myself and hence i got so much interested in that particular gun.
Thanks for all the replies guys, so to sum it up Five-SeveN cannot be sourced from Local Dealers in India. Also in case i manage to get hold of one i will be sure to post the pics up on the boards.

Having used the Five Seven, it isnt a pistol I want. Ammo is expensive, reloading is tricky and many a kaboom stories abound.
In India as a civillian if you can get the five seven, might as well get an Uzi instead.

Not sure about five seven but i have definitely seen FN P90 and FN F2000 with SPG. They are elite guards and have access to almost any kind of weaponry to them.
As far as civilians are concerned , they can definitely posses them but only in dreams

I respect everyone's advice on my query as all of you are veteran/senior members of IFG. I really don't want to retaliate on "In your dreams" comments directed towards me. Can MOD kindly close the thread as my question has been answered in the previous posts and i don't want people to start flaming me.
msandhu, eljefe, magestic, jonahpach and MoA ( In order of replies posted ) i appreciate you guys sparing you valuable time for the replies.

^ eljefe there are only two viable options left for me to get a FN in India , first one is i should clear IPS and then try and apply for SPG recruitment program. As far as the second method goes i don't think it would be appropriate to mention it on the forums.

Birdman,
No comment was directed towards you. Its a general comments towards all the civilians in India including myself ( when i was in India). I am in US at this time and can legally buy the firearm you mentioned but in India we can only dream unless the law changes and possibilities of that happening are very remote.

Cheers

Birdman
dont take it personally. Even if u got one by any means, it will be illegal. It cannot be transferred to your name even U have fire arm license. Yes SPG's can get these types of arms as these types of arms are meant for them only. But they are SPECIAL and remember these guns are not for there personal use or not on there name.

Thanks
