Which handgun model to bring from USA under TR
Hi all,
Thanks for the great site. I will eventually be returning to India (Goa) after several years in California.
I am going to bring a handgun under Transfer of Residence. I have a general understanding of PB and NPB (thanks to this site!)
But I would really like to get your opinions on the actual make and models I should be considering.
For instance, my friend has suggested I bring one of the following:
- 32 ACP Walther PPKS Pistol
- 32 ACP Beretta 3032 Tomcat Pistol
But what I'm finding is that the 32 caliber pistols have become very difficult to find here. Several dealers have told me they haven't seen one in months.
Do you guys have any suggestions for an alternate NPB pistol/bore/model?
Thanks, Elliven

welcome to the forum
points to note you can only bring one firearm on TR.
ammo are hard to find apart from .22 .32 others can be had at high cost and locating is also a problem.
i suggestion would be .380 ie cz 83 double stack mags .
if you search the imports threads you will find many are asking the same question as your self.
if you have contacts in Goa ask them to find out what ammo is there with the dealers.

if you say it can not be done, then you are right, for you, it can not be done.

I cant recommend anything better than the NK6 single six convertible .22LR/.22WMR revolver.(refer picture on my post) .22 ammo, both indian and imported are available here and you can import .22WMR in quanitities allowed on your license.

Try Beretta USA details at http://www.berettausa.com they have what you looking for...the 3032 is an excellent choice...you could also look at 81FS in .32 ACP or the 84 FS in .380....

elliven,
The most easily available modern .32 ACP pistol would probably be a CZ 83 (albeit rarer than the.380 version) or a Beretta Tomcat. Now if a revolver was also in the reckoning then your choices would be significantly more. Perhaps a S&W Model 31 or Model 16 (perhaps reamed out to accept .327 Mag cartridges) or a Ruger SP101.
I know that Imported cartridges are available for pistols of calibers .25 ACP,.30 Mauser, 7.62x25 Tokarev, .380 ACP,.38 ACP. For Revolvers: .357 Magnum, .44-40.
Now, the purpose that you want to get it for: Target practice/Competition Use/Personal Protection/Home Defense will probably determine the size model and caliber. For example if you want only a semi-auto then the choices are more but you will find older pistols or more commonly "mouse guns". If Home defense then the size will not have to be too small and can be a large caliber revolver, alternately a target practice firearm must preferably have an easy, cheap and local source of ammunition etc. While it may be relatively difficult and take some time, most of the firearms that fit your requirement will be found in the USA.

Anand

Not a big fan of sub compact pistols especially Beretta Tomcat. I dont think Beretta Makes 81 or 84F in .32 caliber anymore. Although a used one or NIB could be found. Agree with Naga and Anand CZ 83 provides the best bang of buck.
Still if you like sub compact pistols try NAA Guardians
http://www.naaminis.com/index02.html
or Kel Tec .32 Pistol
http://www.kel-tec-cnc.com/p32.htm
In .380 ACP another pricier option is SIG P232
http://www.sigsauer.com/Products/ShowCa ... oductid=68
Another good gun is Bersa Thunder in .380
http://www.bersafirearmsusa.com/detail_bersa380.php
Off course then there are revolvers also
Best

I wonder if a Ruger 101 in .327 Federal Magnum can use any of the other .32 cartridges that are reasonably easy to find in India. I did a quick google and could not find any info. Look into it, maybe it is what you are looking for.

I would suggest a Ruger SP101, Ruger GP 100 or this smith and wesson.

All the best.
