Hi friends, another beauty stuck in armoury..checked it out some days back..this beauty belonged to my Late father inlaw.. .38 smith & Wesson 5 shot with grip safety... kept in armoury since his demise..waiting for his son & my brother inlaw to get a PB license and rescue it from the cruel world of beautiful weapons stuck in the jaws of bureaucracy

I believe if the pb firearm is legally inherited, a pb licence can be issued.

Nice revolver Alameinite. Congratulations and hope you can get the paperwork down without too much hassle.
This particular model was the upgraded version of Smith and Wesson's first hammerless safety double action model (which again was an upgrade to the Baby Russian single action) and was made in .32 and .38.
The upgraded model was made till 1920.

Cheers

TC

You are very close on the ID there TC :)

To narrow it down a bit this is either the '.38 Safety Hammerless 4th Model' or the .38 Safety Hammerless 5th Model'. Both Models having the common Latch Style.

To pin it down one must look at the front sight and this one definitely has the pinned sight which was a feature on the 4th model as opposed to the 5th model which had an forged front sight which was integral to the barrel and there was no pin.

So to conclude your pistol is definitely a .38 Safety Hammerless 4th Model in production from 1898 to 1907 with a total of more than 100,000 units manufactured.
