private manufacturers in defense sector ??

Post by cyrus_21m » Tue Dec 03, 2013 11:40 am

The Indian government opened the defense equipment industry to private participation in 2001, with a foreign direct investment limit of 26 percent.

The idea was to reduce the increasing dependency on imports, facilitate technology transfers and modernize military hardware.

Four years later, officials admit the plan has not worked.
"The idea of opening up the floodgates of our defense technological know-how to private players was good. But it has not really done well," a senior DRDO official disclosed.
The DRDO labs that were to be opened up are spread across the country. They are engaged in developing defense technologies covering various disciplines like aeronautics, armaments, electronics, combat vehicles, engineering systems, instrumentation, missiles, advanced computing and simulation, special materials, naval systems, life sciences, information systems and agriculture.
im curious about indian private sectors ..why the hell they are not interested in arms manufacturing ? govt. policies ?? is it related with profit ?
if advance arms can be produced in darra ,pakistan ..without any sophisticated tools then why the hell my bros are still using INSAS ?
TATA recently developed an artillery gun thats mounted on TATA truck .. Image and the funny part is they are struggling to get a firing range to test the gun
DRDO and HAL , ordinance factories cant produce enough cream . so whos going to do it ? and how many private companies are developing defense sector
