Mother of Pearl grips for Ashani?

Post by supershaji » Tue Nov 05, 2013 2:47 pm

I might be counting chickens too early, but wanted to know which international make pistol grips may fit (be compatible with) the desi IOF .32 Ashani pistol? I could have them brought in by visiting friends whenever they come.

Are Mother of Pearl grips available to fit the Ashani? in India?

Anything in white-wood? Gunaccessory.com lists them but has discontinued them apparently.

Compatible holsters and grips are what I'm looking for, to keep the waiting period bearable.

Holsters and grips would be available right outside the iof factory at cossipore where you collect the weapon. In fact the grips are available with most dealers in lal bazar as well ( though I saw the same ones every where ). Do make sure you buy a one which has a slightly rough texture. Marble or mother of pearl looks good but the grip may be slippery which may effect the accuracy.

Mother of pearl grips you won't find easily in India. Only a select few models of firearms come with it and internationally mother of pearl grips are available at a very high costs although grips which have the look of mother of pearl are available. I have a pistol Colt 25 pocket vest model which had mother of pearl grips which accidentally fell and broke into two pieces from one side, I took the grip to gunaccessory.com guys at Amritsar they said they can't get or make mother of pearl grips but instead can make a rosewood grip with Colt medallion in it so I got it made in rosewood. I have not tried but since Ashani is copy of Browning you try fitting it and if it fits you look internationally grips for Browning and them put it on Ashani, you can check http://www.eaglegrips.com

@ Farook: thanks for the tip, will try to stick around in Kolkata (will be my 1st time there) for a while scouting for accessories & sightseeing, and maybe buy an airgun or two as souvenir too or gifts for friends back home :)

The logistics and itinerary has not yet been fixed of course (applied only on the 1st of this month), but I just put Lal-bazaar on the Kolkata hit-list, thanks!

I doubt we Indian gun owners ever get the chance to use their guns "regularly", its just something we possess to make us better (equipped) citizens. The range in Hyderabad doesn't sell ammo, and if I exhaust my measly quota of 50 - 100 shots per annum practising, I'll have to go seeking permission again to the rakshaks. Sigh!

@ Raman & Dr JK:

thanks for the leads, emailed both the companies yesterday and waiting for their reply.

Marble... hmmmm...

Oh, btw, the grips on the fancy browning pistol in the youtube video are apparently ivory (says so at the end of the video).
