Indians For Guns

Hi everyone!
My dad owns a SBBL 12 bore gun made by P.Das&co.India(1969).We have used it quite a lot,and have experienced no problems with.Last year I visited the factory,which is located in Guwahati and was informed that weapons made prior to 1971 had barrels made in Spain.The quality of the finish leaves little to be desired and the wood work is excellent.I would like to know if anyone here has had any experience with this make,if yes would be very glad if you shared.

Whats this ho-halla about barrels made in Spain? Why every desi manufacturer claim they got barrels from there? Is quality of steel from Spain is very good?

I am just amazed at the number and variety of Indian made shotguns. I sincerely didnt realise it was a cottage industry. Would love to see pics..

i just talked with a friend of mine(he and his father dealt with for long time buying shotguns from P. Das)
who has dealt with the original P. Das,

he says that as far as he knows they never had any barrels from Spain. As P Das are mainly in to building boats etc, and the shotgun business is only marginal, now the family do not run the company any more.

The Indian market has always had an good demand for foreign weapons and I guess labelling barrels as Spanish adds to the sellers advantage.

Why " Spanish " everytime, why not Greek, or say german

no idea, maybe Spanish sounds forgian and sexy?
but the company is now run by the former foreman as the brothers Das's are having some disagreement. their main work is building boats and ships. they did have production in Manipur but few years back shut down.

not a producers of high grade shooter, going rate around 15k 20k i think.

Thanks for the replies!!!I don't know if spanish steel is better than german steel or not or if the loch ness monster lives in the Bay of Bengal,but the weapon has Spanish state arsenal proof marks as well as IOF proof markings.The weapon has digested 5000 rounds of ammo including more than 1000 76mm shells and a few 89mm super mags,and it shows no signs of stopping there!!!!

Do post pictures of your shotgun.If this shotty has served you this well just hang on to it. Members are just pointing out that many guns in India are sold with 'Spanish' barrels point being steel is of same quality if its of same grade/type whether made by Tata in India or any one else. Again this is no knock to your gun take good care of it..

ok guys i'll do that as soon as I get back to India,which should be sometime in july

And do give the address of the factory in Guwahati. Would like to visit the place. Never knew we had gun factories in the state

Nagarifle was slightly misinformed about this.

There were two manufacturers P.Das & Co. and East End Arms (Which had a branch in Imphal-Manipur as well)

P.Das&Co continues (the last time I checked)to manufacture SBBLs (pretty heavy things) though the day to day factory management and running is mostly undertaken by the senior workers. The owners have diversified to 'ship' (I dare say Ferry) building. They are located at Pan Bazaar (Near the Water Tank)

East End Arms Imphal manufactory closed down a long time ago. The Manufactory in Guwahati continued but again had to stop production owing to a family dispute and the accompanying court case after the passing away of the father... It is now simply a Dealership named 'East India Arms'. They are in located in the Kamarpatti area of Fancy Bazaar. Rajdhani Gun House is another entity owned by one of the brothers. You'll still come across old East End Arms SBBLs (very similar to the P Das design) if you look around.
