What I found especially interesting was the bottom graphic depicting what they generously term as "Range of American shot"... amongst other things, for shot size No. 1 & 2 it shows pellets dropping to the ground after 300+ yards. Can this be correct?!! I realise that this is VERY different from effective range, but still I did not realise that it would travel so far... even if they are using American 3" shotshells as a standard. What do you reckon would be drop to ground for our regular 2 1/2" KF loaded to 30 grams of shot? Or even the 2 3/4" loaded to 32 grams? Just wondering how far that will travel? Merely speculating from a safety standpoint here... loads mentioned being the most common Indian made 12 ga ammo...

It seems very much possible. The path taken by the pellets is parabolic. Only during their upward path of 150 yds at angle of 30 degrees, they are working against the gravity. Once they have reached the top of the parabola the rest 150 yds of traveling is helped by gravity. Entirely possible. People have lost their eye to #4 shot at 300 yds. A 3" shell carries a heavier payload at the same velocity. At least where traditional lead shot is concerned. Even 2 1/2" shells were loaded to the same velocity, but with less shot. Shot velocity for lead and steel shot cannot be compared. Velocity for steel is higher, but it also slows down faster. With plastic shot cups it has been possible to increase velocity somewhat, but the increase in range is negligible. Cheers.

An aside, when Shooter,Hamiclar and self were shooting clays at http://www.Sportingtargets.co.uk ,Bedford, leadshot kept showering upon us every time someone shot in our direction from yonder-of course not at us.It is very possible that the distance is less than 300 yards or there abouts.But, not more than 400.Now, given the obsession with Health & Safety in UK, if it were unsafe, there simply wouldn't have been permission to run the place.I can be wrong in all my assumptions.Just sharing my thoughts.
