Importing Shotgun parts

Hi

I was wondering that is likely hood on being able to import or get Shotgun part like Barrel or Trigger.

Do we have any restrictions on those also.

Well I think, importing shotgun parts is not restricted. Please check DGFT doc.

I need to check if a trigger kit can be imported.But, barrels cannot be imported.

thanks a ton. the reason i asked was that. I have relative whose barrel got bad but the rest of the gun was in great condition and could be brought back to life. So if we could get a barrel.

Hmmm..good post-i was myself thinking of such an question- i mean import of shotgun barrels, but doubt if that wud be permitted unless some gyaani throws light on this issue.

one more thing, what if i take the gun along with me and get it repaired and bring it.Is there any provision for this. I mean i declare it while going itself. get it endorsed on passport and bring it back.

All Gurus please help on this

Just a though what if worst come worst try contacting Indian Shotgun manufacturers for barrel replacement or maybe even a repair.

Even if they allow you to take the gun abroad what about the permissions from local authorities? Still its worth exploring starting with Customs. You can also try contacting Bespoken gun makers in UK or elsewhere to check whether they have ever repaired Indian guns..Its a short in dark.

Here, an un-chambered barrel is essentially a steel pipe. Dont know the situation in India.
So you might be able to get an unchambered barrel, and have it chambered and proofed locally. Check your laws.

Around here even a chambered barrel unless mated to an action is a steel pipe.. go figure.

Thanks for all the response. I think i will catching hold of some one who has Info about customs and imports.
It just came to mind that if i have it mentioned on my passport, then i am legally liable to bring it back too. So if i can get it endorsed on passport, then i should be able to take it out and bring it back, repaired.
So what do shooters do when they go for shooting competition, it might be shot in the dark but they should be doing something same.

IMPORT

1.Import of firearms and their parts and accessories is restricted

2.Import of shotgun barrels is allowed to those who fulfill the conditions for import of a shotgun to shooters.

REPAIR

An imported firearm can be taken abroad for repair.It would require a license to export and re-import and maybe a clearance from the embassy of the country that you are taking it to.

Unless it is a shotgun for which barrels are readily available,getting new barrels fitted would be an expensive proposition that would run into a couple of thousand dollars to several times that figure depending upon where you get it done.

Getting the barrels sleeved would be a lot cheaper but may still cost you a lot.

Another alternative would be teague sleeving the barrels.The quote that I got some years back was about 1000 dollars.
