what are your experiences related to slugs in the indian scenario ? i have fired the spherical ball by shaktiman and clever mirage rifled slugs in my indian made sxs . had good groups with the slugs ( on the range ) on a humanoid cut out at a range at 60 - 70 yds. the spherical ball does tend to drift a lot.i have fired 10 slugs non stop from bothh barrels of my dbbl and had no ill effects.
whats your take on slugs ?

I have used Slugs in my dad's single barrel 12gauge & my brother's 16gauge.
Rifled slugs gives good performace & penetration.After few practice shots,my elder brother was able to hit a 1X2foot tin box at approx. 85mtrs.
You are right,spherical balls drift alot,hitting an A4 paper becomes a task even at 50mtrs.

Mirage are good,try to get hold of some Brenneke slugs,it doesnt get better than that for smooth bore guns......many a Buff have been shot with them in Aus.

where to get the slugs u mentioned and for how much?

I have also had good experience in using Shaktiman slugs in my Beretta OU shotgun. Gives a good group. Requires cleaning due to residue.

I shoot Brennekke and Sauvestre which is essentially a sabotted projectile quite a bit. Gnerally at a 20 or 50 liter drum at 100 M, average about 70-80% hits.

In the European context some people use these to hunt boar and deer.

I would avoid shooting them in full choke barrells... since they might have an issue with the slugs. Again I am no expert on shotguns.

good reviews ! folks all i have seen in my part of the hinterland are slugs by clever mirage which are of the brennke variety ie the wad is integral to the slug. wher do u people source the aforementioned slugs and what bout the moolah ? also has any one done a penetarion or ballistic test of some type ?

Being an ardent rifleman, I never used a shotgun when hunting big game in good old days. More so after once when I lost a huge Boar , in a "Haaka" shot between shoulder blades with the famous "Alphamax" 2 3/4" (LG)shell at merely four feet.. How ever one day, just for kicks I tried a few Brenneke slug loads through a Browning Superposed 3" magnum at around 60 yds. I was amazed at it's accuracy. The slugs consistently cut the 2" bull around 6 o' clock. That too from a shotgun with a crude bead front. Was it the shotgun or the load, I wonder. It restored my faith in shotgun and I surely would not have regretted taking this combo out hunting which unfortunately I never could. Coming back to the old Boar story. Those Alfamax shells had rattled loose over the years lying in the cartridge bag that saw many a head bumping trips in my old Ford Jeep and that may have caused them to weakened and loose the steam, I assume.

PS: This load on a buffalo??? Only after you've made doubly sure its dead already.

It was most probably the choke. A cylinder choke can give you groups you would expect from an extremely well regulated double rifle. This has been done with Clever Mirage slugs, so it's not just the Brennekes that can do that.

No, that isn't so. Whilst the wad will fly with the slug and may even stay with the slug (not always), it is not integeral to the slug as is the case with the Brenekke slugs. The CM slugs have a partial cavity into which the wad snap fits.

I can't speak for the other types of slugs they sell, but I hunted one season with Brenneke "Rottweil" slugs and was very disappointed with their performance. At about 40 yards the slug did not even pass through the deer, it was stopped by the hide on the far side.

To be fair, the "Rottweil" slug is probably their cheapest slug but I will not be using them again on a 100 kg deer and I wouldn't even think of using them on a Ozzie buffalo!
