I HAVE SEEN IOF 12 BORE WITH A DEALER IN ALL MOST 90% NEW CONDITION .
BARREL OF GUN IS SHINING FROM INSIDE (?),.CAN ANY TELL THE MATERIAL USED BY IOF FOR BARREL i.e. IT'S M.S OR EN9 , EN 19 .
HE IS ASKING 25 THOUSAND FOR FOR IT AND NOTHING LESS. KINDLY SUGGEST IS IT BETTER TO BUY NEW MODERN(JAMMU MAKE ) FOR 25 THOUSAND OR OLD IOF FOR 25 THOUSAND .

Go for the IOF , you would not repent. As for Jammu made guns, I know better than most. 8)

IOF SXS is preferable , however has the dealer done some "work" on it ? Is the barrel length 28" or 30" ? Has it been re-blued ? How is the stock ?

Which dealer in Ludhiana is it ? IOF DBBL in very good/excellent "original" condition for 25K is not a bad deal .

best,

RP.

A barrel can be made to look "shining from inside" with a generous application of oil... do as penpusher says and go through some of the earlier posts in the shotgun section... you should find enough information on how to best apprise the true condition of the gun etc.

Saw a Jammu made gun with a dealer in Gurgaon. I must say I failed to close the gun after opening it. It requires two men or more to close it perhaps. Even for opening it I had to give it a firm blow near the muzzle end.

But the looks - 3/4 rip. BOSS back bore system and ventilated barrels on the last 3 inches.

IOF tested guns are good but IOF made ones are crap

TATA makes some of the best steel in the world and this is not jingoistic nonsense.BTW IOFB has it's own steel plant which supplies steel to the IOFB plants. You can get very good steel for making guns in India itself. The local gun makers use mild steel in making the internals for their shotgun while the IOF has used better quality steel that is properly heat treated. Some of the gun makers even use discarded steam pipes. Some of them turn down the barrels AFTER proof testing to make the gun lighter.I have seen a Jammu made gun with one of the barrels blown outwards with a 2 inch hole about 4 inches from the chamber.

As told by gunner is this true that jammu shotgun manufacturers can make 12 bore gun with special steel on demand , so can we supply EN24 as it is high with cromium& nickel , moly as used by european manufacturers .
something very interested is avaliable i.e; 304 stainless steel pipe very high grade so is it possible to machine ss barrels

jaz,

Kindly spare your self a lot of headache by not listening to the selling tactics of a gun dealer. Meher Singh and sons, Modern and khurmi are somewhat known for their guns as far as the Jammu factories go.

There are at least 32 gun manufacturing units in Jammu and therefore a lot of different names in the market. IOF shotguns are definitely better if they have not been tampered with earlier.

Since I am in the same city as you , I will be glad to help .

best,
RP.

If you can take a few snaps of the gun and post it here then the experts can help. However if someone has already had a good look at it and feel that it is good then go in for it 25 is a good price for an IOF in a good condition and irrespective of what "some" say the IOF barrel is a very good one and will last for many years if taken care of well.
