Has anyone heard of a

Jonas B A Repeater. Frank. S. Jonas Inc. 2 3/4 Chamber



This is whats written on the gun. No mention of country of origin , no other marks. It is a 6 shot, bolt action, 12 gauge, single barrel shotgun.


What I want to know the country it originates from and how good or bad it is.

sounds like an American shotgun, maybe around 1800

i say this because it got Frank S Jonas Inc.

Inc is not used in the UK not until recently, so the most place Inc is used is America.

not many bolt action were made as they proved to be slow in operating.

hope others can add to this.

Naga in 1800's they had muskets,dont think they had bolt actions in those days.

Many large calibre Military rifles were converted to bolt action shotguns in Belgium and Birmingham (UK ) during 1900s to 1940s, could it be one of these vintages ?

i still think it is an American product rather then European.

i still think its 1800s maybe of end of the century ie 1899

leaver action shotgun came in around 1887.

one other point is that the bolt action in question is a 6 shoot one.

I`ve never heard of a gunmaker named `Frank S Jonas` and a quick web search has revealed nothing - nor have searches for similar names such as `Frank S Jones`.
As has been suggested, the company name is almost certainly American because of the form of the title: `Inc` ( the abbreviated form of `Incorporated` ) is exlusively a US style.
Without pictures it will be impossible to suggest an origin for the gun but my feeling is that it is probably a Marlin or Mossberg ( or something else ) bearing a retailers name.
One unusual aspect is the 6-round magazine which is huge for a B-A shotgun - a 2 or 3 round capacity is usual. A Mauser conversion IS a possibility......but a remote one because A) If it were, the receiver would retain some marks and B) The magazine is far larger than any fitted to any Mauser that I`ve ever heard of.
I presume that the magazine is a box type and not tubular ?

I`ve just had a look at your pictures of the bolt and daren`t say what it looks most like........suffice to say that I`ve never seen a 12-bore version and an American relabelled version is so unlikely as to be virtually impossible.

Frank Jonas did not make any guns, it was a brand that bought other guns and had their name put on them.
