How about posting full photos of the gun taken in sunlight? Very little can be made out from these photos. All the markings, inside the barrels, receiver face, etc.

Vikram Sir & Shabbu9X9 my WJ Jeffrey has the same markings as this. Please let me know if its 2 1/2 " or 2 3/4".
I have never used Shaktiman Cartridges. But its difficult to resist using imported Cartridges marked as 2 3/4". None of the Kolkata shopkeepers can advice . Please help.

Beautiful 12 Bore.
Purdey is by far One of the top 3 English Gun Makers.
My Uncle had a Pair, Sold it for a Song.
Check the Firing Pin, this will give you an idea of the use.
The engraving does look a little worn,
However it is in very good shape for its age.
Side Lock are a little complicated to repair.
The Stock/Wood has an unusually dark colour.
This may be because of the oil used and dust over the years.
It can be restored to its original shine.
Out of curiosity, how much is the asking price.

Regards,
Jr.

How did you conclude that it has 2 3/4" chambers? All of the Purdeys that I have encountered have 2 1/2" written on the flats. In this case nothing is written on the barrel flat. Just my observation.

yep good antic english shotgun
price in EU and other 2000-3000 Euro in middle

have nitro mark - may use nitro powder!

left barrel with choke
right barrel for slug (maybe cylinder)

many old guns basic with damascus barrel only for black smokles powder

my recomendation - restoration this in stock (like new) and use for pest control (not legal in India :stupid: if name "hunting" ROTFL )

5 lacs good price for India for this stuff i think!

Its chamber 2 1/2 - 65 mm (12/65 410/65 20/65 and other) - short
2 3/4 - 70 mm - regular

buy some package cartridge in /70 caliber - make out - cut the case and making new cartridge
but need tool looks like this

From what I know, chamber length was not indicated on guns made between 1904-1925. That this gun was proved for 1 1/8oz of shot is another indicator that this gun is more likely to have 2 1/2" chambers.

2 3/4" cartridges can be chambered and fired in a gun with 2 1/2" chambers. What will happen is the excessive pressure will damage the hinge pins and hooks will take a beating. Felt recoil increases and can be dangerous immediately or eventually.

It however does not mean that this gun does not have 2 3/4" chambers. However, that needs to be verified either by the marks on the gun or by measuring the chambers.

Guesswork has no place when it comes to firearms.

Best-
Vikram

about mark nitro proof its - 1 - 1/8 oz lead shot experience

Added in 6 minutes 8 seconds:
Chamber of this rifle "12 с" mark - C mean 70 mm or 2 3/4
for info - if mark "12 cl" or "12 l" mean 76 mm - magnum cartridge chamber
may use standart 12/70 cartridge in this shotgun with load no more 18-25 gramm lead

12C indicates bore; that means this gun is 12-bore. Does not refer to chamber length.

Sir i have special book about all mark!

"Калибр патронника нормальной длины, как и у бельгийцев, изображается соответствующей цифрой с буквой С (калибр) в четырехугольнике, а при наличии длины патронника свыше 76 мм — в четырехугольнике помещается еще буква "L"."

"The caliber of the chamber of normal length, like that of the Belgians, is represented by the corresponding number with the letter C (caliber) in the quadrilateral, and if there is a length of the chamber over 76 mm, the letter L is also placed in the quadrilateral."

Added in 5 minutes 49 seconds:
12с mark mean - 12 caliber c - normal chamber 70 mm - standart ammo
if mark 12l or 12cl - magnum chamber 76 mm or longer - magnum ammo

Each proof house's marks are different.

I do not know what your source is but this is what it is.
