Could you please post photos of the full gun, proof marks and muzzle ends? Have checked if the muzzle ends are rifled?

It resembles model "EXPLORA" which was introduced as a rival to H&H "Paradox" and Jungle gun in late 19th century as an all round gun. That explains the 32" barrel. IMHO.

This definitely is a paradox pattern shotgun. Needs polish and a proper walnut stock on it. It's going to be great.

32 inch barrels are for ducks, geese and other big game like deer and boar....the reason being that

1. Longer barrels have better sighting radius

2.Longer barrels have better velocity which also means it is effective at longer ranges

3. Guns with longer barrels are heavy which means it can be used with heavy loads and due to the weight of the gun the recoil will be absorbed.

The adjustable sights and full choke says it all

In a context, yes. The velocity advantage gained over a 28" or 30" is a few tens of FPS. For most applications, it is not significant. One can reach out to those ducks, geese and high pheasants to some extent but deer and boar do not figure in here.

Longer barrels do not automatically result in heavier barrels as shorter and longer barrels can be, and are, made with same weight.

Re loads, it depends on the loads for which a gun a is proved. Not being critical here. Just sharing my views.

Velocity and the weight of the gun may not be that big factor but longer barrels are easy to point at flying targets ....that's why trap and skeet shotguns have such long barrels

I do agree with Vikram in today's context when firearm technology has come so far...

First cartridge is Westley Richards explora used to hunt big games only . Now the availability of explora cartridge is next to zero in India as per my knowledge.
