gun reviews by a novice.

Post by shooter » Mon Oct 08, 2007 6:58 pm

Hi fellow gun geeks,
This weekend I was out shooting with a few friends and got a chance to try out a few different shotties:

Browning cynergy 30” extended chokes.
Beretta gold mallard semi auto
Browning 325 grade 5

Although im no expert I would like to share my experience with my fellow brothers-in-arms.

The cynergy was the synthetic stock version. The owner said he chose it as the wooden stock on his previous stock had cracked and so he has given up on wood.
As you all know the cynergy stock can be adjusted to fit an individual. I, however didn’t do it as the gentleman was the same height and built as I.
I felt that the extended chokes made the gun a bit front heavy. ( I shoot a 425 30”- which has a point of balance 11 mm in front); or was it the synthetic stock?

Beretta gold mallard was the first semi auto ive shot (shot pumps before.)
I was using 28 g loads and sometimes the cartridges wouldn’t feed into the chamber. The owner told me it sometimes happens when you fire lighter loads. Told me it worked perfectly with32 g.
The recoil was very less but the spent ejected cartridges were a bit distracting in the beginning. As I wasn’t used to having anything ‘falling’ from the gun, in my peripheral vision.
The bead was a large red one and was a bit distracting, though I did score well (left to right rising quartering away). Missed the last pair as I flinched in anticipation. The gun stock was short and the base of the rt. thumb was slapping my upper lip and by the end it was a bit painful.

Browning 325 was a beauty and I found it very well balanced. Thankfully no gold trigger on this one. Though it didn’t fit me well, I did well as it was an easy going away bird.

The cartridges used were D&J 2.5” 28g no.7.5. sometimes were getting stuck and not ejecting. This is the first time it happened with my browning but didn’t happen in classic…m92. I was told that sometimes ‘cheap’ cartridges expand and so the ejectors cant eject them so as a result even the barrels don’t break fully and one needs to use a lot of strength to open them.( else close them and open again.)I was assured that if it was because of weak springs, it would happen everytime. Thankfully this happened with only 3 boxes of cartridges and was ok afterwords.(note: these 3 boxes were fired only from 1 gun, my 425.)

There was a bettinsoli luxe 20g 28” sideplate game gun but was unable to try it. The owner whos a browning fan bought it last week and wanted to try it out so couldn’t even get feed back from him.

Till next time……….
Keep shooting
