pump action shotties in the uk

while i was visiting countless gunshops in the uk, hamiclair asked me if i had come across any pump action shotguns.
i replied in the negative.
from that time onwards, i specifically kept a more thorough lookout and even asked for pumps.
to my surprise, though there were lots of semi autos, i havent come across any pumps.

any particular reason?

Yeah, the European mindset has grudgingly allowed for the use of semi-autos but finds the overall handling experience of a pump action too alien.....and just too poor.
There are plenty of pump-actions around though - can you tell a pump-action from a semi-auto at a quick glance ?
Remingtons and Mossbergs are available new.....and, no doubt, others as well - I saw a virtually new Manufrance the other day.
Laws are the same as for a semi-auto or bolt-action shotgun. The magazine has to be restricted to two cartridges ( which, with one in the chamber, gives a three-shot capacity. ) If the magazine is not restricted the gun is classified as a firearm and can only be purchased/owned by those with a FAC with a variation for an unrestricted shotgun.

Oh dear - just noticed the `shotties` are back again.
How do you distinguish between a SxS or O/U shotgun and a Pump-action gun ? Might the latter be a `pumpy` ?

i personally dont like the term shottie but at the moment at the hosp. comp. so dont want to use the word g**. just a silly precaution considering the site im visiting.

"can you tell a pump-action from a semi-auto at a quick glance ?"
well i thought i could. but now that i think about it the only pump ive handled was a remington. i just assumed the others would look the same.
the ones with a bolt are definitely semi autos, right?
even when i asked the store owners for pumps, they didnt have em.
ill try essex shop. i didnt ask there, just glanced around. they had a huge stock of semis. maybe i missed a pump there.

Ah right.......You think the hospital trust utilises a security system ? If it does I would imagine that the word `gun` would be quite likely to be `flagged` ...... along with `bomb`, `hijack` ......... and `Jeep Cherokee` ! (  )
Yes, better to be safe than sorry.
I`m quite surprised to discover that there aren`t many pump-action guns in Essex.......they`d seem classic Essex `fayre` somehow............You know, vulgar, loud, cheap, ignorant, drunk, named `Wayne` or `Tracy`....... and, if the latter, pregnant !
I thought that you were in Enfield ? Isn`t that Greater London ? Possibly once Middlesex.......or maybe Herts. Not Essex anyway......it`s the wrong side of the river.
Did you know that there is a River `Pant` in Essex ? Just about says it all. Even funnier is that it comes off the Cam. So that`s THREE associations for Anand with this thread - Pump-action guns, `shotties` and Cam ( bridge. ) LOL

`Wayne` or `Tracy`....... and, if the latter, pregnant ! hahaha. spot on. how bout being a minor as well.
river pant???? wow thats news. and yes, it does sum it up perfectly.
anand ...double haha.
i meant esses g**shop in chelmsford(greater london). and had been there to see bettinsolis 2 months ago. its owned by neville jay. (?spelling), who i understand is a renowned shot in england.
i do live in enfield greater london, they say its middlesex. but just at the hertfordshire border.

If "pumpy" comes from pump gun, where does "Grumpy"come from? Hmm... scratch, scratch.

`Pumpy` comes from `Come in Babee`, `Put your shottee away`, `Wash your handees`, et cetera( ee .) I know this because I`ve had the matter explained to me.

`Grumpy` comes from being a bad tempered, miserable, old git !
