Ever Seen a Single Barrelled Sidelock?

Post by Vikram » Thu Jul 19, 2012 2:46 pm

Grumps pointed this gun to me.

I vaguely remember having seen one on the net. All in all a strange beast.

This is an English gun.Specs as follows:

Second hand Duerden Sidelock Single 12 Bore/gauge Shotgun.Made by Duerden of Nelson (Lancashire)

12 bore 30" damascus barrel 2 3/4" chambers Recent Nitro Proof.

Sidelock Non Ejector

Seems Interesting.

Initially I wondered if it is a true Sidelock or a Boxlock Sideplate? The price tag suggests latter.

However closeup of the action reveals a true Sidelock.

Hi Vikram,

There are few around. They are mostly trap guns and some came out of best gun makers.

There is a nice one a Purdey Trap gun from 1920's for sale.

Here is a 4 bore! sidelock single barrel.(Notice the sideplate only on oneside)
